The Garment District

Whenever I'm in New York, I like to walk through the Garment District.  There are dozens of shops with interesting window displays.  Their offerings, however, are not for sale to ordinary people like us; the stores are wholesale shops and sell only to retailers, a point made by many signs.

The clothes are so pretty that I want to open my own boutique just so I can buy them.  Would you shop at "Ally's Place"?  How 'bout if I gave you a discount?

  1. Those shops are such a tease. I used to work around there. I'm sure you'd have an awesome selection of goods if you opened a shop!

  4. I would totally shop at Ally's Place! Sounds lovely. I have always wanted to take a stroll through the garment disctrict in New York. I used to have an internship that had a subscription to WWD and I remember reading about it. I hope to come out to NYC in Feb for fashion week...

  5. Ooooh, sparkly dresses! I want them all. I would totally shop at Ally's Place. You should post pictures of the items you would sell. And what music would you play in your store?

    1. I would have a young female music-student quietly playing the harp. And my collection would be as eclectic as I am.

    2. ....And a little pug dog that the visitors to the shop could pet? I would love that. Plus, most pugs like to wear little oufits, imo :-)

  6. Oh heck yes, I would shop at your store. When will it be open?
Those pictures give me a glimpse into a world I did not know existed. I thought wholesalers would just have a warehouse and not display windows.

I miss the days when stores had fancy window displays. At least here they don't have them any more.

  7. Oh, I would TOTALLy shop at that store. But you have to promise to stock things for chicks who aren't skeletons, 'k?

Did you stop by the big needle threading a button? That's one of those things I can't skip :)

  8. I would deffo go to your shop! And blog about it!
It's a bit far from me but I think Finnair will give me discount coz they once treated my iguana poorly while migrating him from Japan to Finland and I complained about it afterwards. (True story).

You could make an online store too!

  9. I'd totally shop there! I wouldn't even need a discount - though it'd be nice. ;P Sounds like a really cool area. If I were a more competitive person than a romantic, I'd probably be right up there in the elements fighting for a shot to buy and sell.

  10. Wow I really wish I could shop in the Garment District at least once in my lifetime. What a fabulous spot. These boutiques look so...heavenly. :)

Oh, and I'm also envious of how awesome you look in orange in the post below. At least one of us can pull that color off! xoxo

  13. I really wish the garment district were more like it used to be: a place where garments were actually made. More homegrown fashion would be nice.

As for Ally's Place, if you offered some good dark fashion I'd be there in a split second. ;)
