In My Yard

Nature is living in my backyard.  How do you feel about spiders?

  1. Although spiders are a little scary, they are quite fascinating. I sat and watched a spider make a web a couple of weeks ago on my front porch. It was really cool! Heather

  2. I love spider webs and I love that spiders eat other bugs I do not like. But, I don't like seeing spiders. So I pretty much have an agreement with them to not show their faces and I'll let them do their thing.

  3. Spiders are lovely--I love their webs! I don't want them in my apartment, though

  4. That's a big web. I try & avoid spiders. On Saturday i walked into a web in the garden when hanging out washing. I had just had my hair cut & my hairdresser likes to put lots of gunk in my hair - there was so much gunk n there the spider got stuck! yuck. I was not overly happy with either hairdresser or spider.

  5. I love spiders. Outside. I don't even mind them inside as long as they're small, don't move when I'm in the room and stay out of the sink and tub. I name all of my indoor spiders Carl.

  6. Oh so cool. I love spiders, just not in the room with me. I think they do great things by eating other icky bugs. I try not to ruin webs in the garden, but any come inside and they get squished.

  7. I find spiders fascinating, but I don't want them on me.

We currently have what seems to be an infestation of Cross spiders all around our yard. They're everywhere. I keep catching them in a jar and moving them away from our front door. Walking out into a face full of web - not cool.

If you find spiders interesting you might like Louise Bourgeois' work - spiders were a common theme.

  8. So pretty! I'm not a huge fan of spiders INSIDE my house, but I don't think there is anything prettier than a dewy spider's web in the morning. Thanks so much for sharing these photos!

  9. I don't want to hurt them, but I don't want to walk into a spider web, either. I mean, what if the spider was about to write SOME PIG?

  10. I love spiders and don't even mind them inside as long as they keep their paws to themselves. Those are some fantastic web shots, they can be hard to capture. We used to get orb weavers where I lived on the coast, their webs can be huge and intricate. Here in the outback we get redbacks, cousin to your black widow I think, don't like them much they do real damage if they bite, lucky they are shy and will run if they can.

  11. I do not have any phobias about spiders and often marvel at the beauty of their webs. Years ago I saw a special on PBS that graphically illustrated the changes in the weaving of a web when a spider was "on" various substances--very eye-opening.

  12. Rats, someone beat me to SOME PIG.

I'm actually a live and let live spider gal. UNLESS they are HUGE. Then I am a screamer.

  13. That is one amazing web. Great photo since I know how hard it is to capture a web in a photo.

  16. I don't mind spiders so much. My husband hates them. So I'm the spider killer in our household (sorry Lyosha, pet spider owner)....although we rarely see one. I'm more yukked out by other creepy crawly things....like ants.

  17. I think I'm more freaked out about getting caught in the web than the spider. thank you for your comment yesterday!

  18. Those webs are so pretty! I like spider webs (especially when they're covered in dew) but spiders freak me out. And my dog eats them. :(
