Am I In New York?

Queens is an outer borough of New York City.  Most of it is the congested city environment you'd expect.  Today, however, I saw an oasis in this urban desert.

Friends of mine, who live there, invited me to join them for a festival at the only working farm in Queens.  Called the Queens County Farm Museum, this public farm has crops and animals.  I thought I was in the Midwest, not New York City.

Here are some pics...

  1. My partner lives in Queens and I always am so amazed when I go out there because it truly doesn't seem like the city. And as someone who grew up in the Midwest, these photos bring back some memories!

  2. I love going to petting zoos, I always go see the animals when the fair is here. My favorite are the goats, they're silly and fun.

  3. Glad you were able to leave the "city" for a moment. It's always refreshing to change up and see a different perspective. Now, back to the excitement of Alley's world...!!!

  6. It sounds like such a fun place! The fact you can channel a country or small town feel in one of the busiest places on earth is no small feat! Love the llama pictures!

  7. I have often wondered if there were people in NY who had never seen any farm animals in real life. What a wonderful treasure this farm is. It does feel like it could be right here in Kansas!

  8. Awww so cute! I especially love the rooster. A very handsome fella! I always get so excited when we drive past the farms on the outer reaches of town. There's cows! and alpaca and goats. But mostly cows. <3
