Retro Fashion

Back in the 1960's, I was a child looking at adult women and wishing I could grow up to be one of them.  Their outfits made me swoon.

While I never got that chance, my life isn't over.  I found this delicious dress at a thrift-store this week (Savers).  Thrifting is a blessing for those of us who want to play with clothes but need to stay within a budget.  The dress cost less than I usually spend for dinner.

The style of the dress appeals to me, as do the colors.  I didn't wear a necklace to avoid interfering with the cute neckline and stripes.  I'm not sure how else the dress could be styled, but it rocks by itself.  Any ideas on other ways to present it?

The dangling earrings were a recent gift from my friends, Lynne and Megan.

I had some free time, so I spent a little extra effort on my makeup (purple and gold eyeshadow).  I'm not proficient at this stuff, but applying it feels easier and gives me deep joy.

  4. I like the dress just as you have it. I wouldn't wear a necklace either. In the winter wear it with tights, boots and a cardi. Great find Ally.

  5. OH...I also think some sort of animal print shoes would add interest.

  7. And you said you were shaped like a cylinder! Look at those curves, this outfit looks great on you! And make up is my favorite part of getting dressed up, so I'm glad you have fun with it. :)

  8. Ooohlala! I think this dress does highlight curves all your own. The dress is fantastic, I love the mod color blocking. I think it would look great with a cozy sweater and tights for cooler weather. If you wanted to try a belt, I'd stick to thinner ones - a bolder belt might cover the shape the dress gives you.

Also I'm so impressed at your make-up. You've improved leaps and bounds since I've started reading your blog.

Also hooray for the nailpolish! Red nails are the chic-est accessory!

  9. What a stunning dress- I love the cut and colour and how you kept it simple with the bracelets- it would also look great with some sort of blazer or cardigan! Great purple eyeshadow- now I am in a makeup mood!

  10. OMG, you look gorgeous! This dress is wonderful. Look at the cut of the waistline how it dips in beautifully. I love the top part and the colors. And it's the perfect length to show off your sexy legs. Love the peep toe shoes, earrings and bracelets too. And may I just go on...? :) You nails and makeup look lovely. I never even bother to do my fingernails because I ruin them too quickly...and I've never in my life been able to apply eye shadow. You did a great job on styling AND makeup. And...your hair is really pretty. Love the little slight side swoop of bangs.
You need a fancy night out in that! That dress was a definite score.

  12. It is a very flattering dress and I can see why you were drawn to it. It's very 60's in color and shape along with the graphic pattern. You certainly don't need a necklace.
