The Invisible Girlfriend

The world is so odd; you can't make this stuff up.

There's a new service being offered to men who are tired of being nagged by family -- it's called "the invisible girlfriend."  The service provides tangible evidence that you're dating a girl even though she doesn't exist.  You can use the evidence to shut up your mother and other relatives who nag you about not having a girlfriend.

There are three levels of service.  For $9.99/month, you get interactive texts, automated phone calls and an "emergency interaction button."  For $29.99/month, you get a Facebook relationship with her, real voicemails and random notes and gifts.  For $49.99/month, you get live phone calls and the opportunity to create her background story.

Of course, with none of these plans do you get an actual girlfriend.  Just proof to pretend you have one.

Are there men so beleaguered by their relatives that they need this?  And would be willing to pay for it?  That's sad.  What do you think?

  1. Oh my goodness! Wouldn't the family eventually want to meet her? Can't see this working in the long run.

  2. It's sad that someone is trying to profit from men who are desperate but then perhaps this is just the equivalent of cellulite cream. It's not real but gives you an illusion that makes you feel better able to face your detractors.

  3. Oh geez. This really just seems like something you would see on a sitcom. Is that what happened? Is there a Friend's episode or something out there with this and someone made it in real life?

  4. I thought it was quite funny...now thinking it over, if there is an actual service out there it's because there is a need for it.
I have girl friends who have nagging parents, nag them on when they'll have a boyfriend or when they'll get married... so i can totally imagine a guy being nagged too.

  5. I know Asian guys whose families will seriously not leave them alone about this.

  6. I think my girlfriend could have used this, but with a fake boyfriend. Her sister nagged her all the time. She would prefer a real one but just hasn't had any luck.

  10. Um, that seems like a lot of trouble to go through just to placate other peeps minding your business. I say stuff it, and save the bucks for a really lovely outing, even if it's solo.

  11. yes - that´s sad. perhaps the immature relationship to they´r mother is the reason why these men have no girlfriend or think they need to simulate one...

  12. I heard about this and I think its sad that people really think they are in need of invisible girlfriends... also to your post about shaving- I think many women do not like their body any longer the way it natural is and this is a pitty. Did you hear about asshole (sorry to write this word here)- bleaching? Thats another crazy step in the direction of becoming a barbie-doll instead of a person :(

    1. I agree with you. We should love our bodies the way nature made them.
