Hot Stuff

One of my mottos is: "It's Never Too Late To Have A Happy Childhood."  That means we can always seek happiness, even if it's past the customary time for it.

Growing up as a boy, I missed out on a lot.  I never got to play with things girls do at various points in their lives.  I envied those activities  from afar and figured life would never present me the opportunity to enjoy them.

Well... as you saw from my Prom Project, I've decided late is better than never.  There's nothing stopping me from doing anything I want now as long as I don't mind being called silly.  To that charge, I plead Guilty!  If people want to criticize me for acting silly, I don't care.  What's more important is the joy I can grab by pursuing my dreams, however late.

One of the things teenage girls explore in their development is dressing sassy.  Wearing clothes that emphasize their physical beauty.  Many girls, I'm assume, experiment with how far they can go in attracting attention.  Later, as they mature, they scale back to a comfortable place.  That must be an interesting process to experience.

I am not a teenage girl.  I don't have an attractive body.  But... I'm curious about how it must feel, emotionally, to play with this.  I'm curious what sassy clothes look and feel like.  I'm curious how close I can get to mimicking feminine beauty while realizing I don't possess it.

I apologize for the long introduction but an idea popped into my head when I went to the Mall last weekend.  With two girlfriends, I visited Charlotte Russe, a clothing store for teenage girls.  I saw a pair of short red shorts with an attached black belt that blew my mind.  It recalled my teenage years when girls wore "hot pants."  I would have sold my soul to be able to dress like that then.

Yes, it is silly for me to wear these clothes now, but I'm not going to get arrested so let me try.  When viewing the following pictures, please keep an open mind.  And then tell me what you think...

  1. I love hot shorts! I don't have long legs like you do, so I learned a trick.. Wear heels and it makes your legs look longer and thinner.

Also, I love the idea that it's never too late to have a happy childhood. It reminds me of one of my favorite quotes: "When I grow up, I want to be a little boy." Being silly makes life a lot more interesting. Hope to see many, many, many more silly outfits on your blog!

  4. You say you don't have an attractive body, but your legs look amazing! You can totally rock the hot pants if you want to. It's very go-go dancer. I have fantasies about wearing the sequined, fringed, barely-there costumes from Dancing With the Stars. You're right that it's never too late to have a happy childhood. Enjoy it!

  5. You know I like to be honest, right? For a split second, when I realized you would actually be wearing hot pants in the pics I was about to see, I thought you may have gone too far. But, seriously, you look fabulous. I'm not sure that is the thing to wear out and about this time of year, but you really look awesome. I wish I had legs that look like yours! The boa may be a bit much, but what the Hell. Everything else looks fab.

  6. What do I think? I think you should send them to me. They hawt! Don't have an attractive body my ass. Look at those legs!

Bonus points for going into Charlotte Russe. I'm a 21 year old girl and that place scares the shit out of me.

P.S. Clearly, you are in the advanced class. Look at these!

P.P.S. I think these hot shorts would look great with polka dots. Just sayin'.

  7. Ya know, I was kind of suspicious, but you pull of the shorty shorts well. You've got great legs. I never wore short-shorts growing up, or many 'skimpy' clothes like my peers did. I sort of missed out on that myself because I was always very thin and short (and poor) so finding clothes that would basically stay on me and at least sort of fit was hard to find.

As I hit my 20s I felt that need to cover up more. I'll still happily free-boob (no bra) in a low cut top during summer, but often feel very uncomfortable showing off my legs, or weirdly my feet sometimes (although I have no problem with them, I just like socks and feel naked without socks). I think it's always interesting to see where people draw their personal modesty lines.

  10. This is a cute outfit and it would be absolutely outdoors-worthy in the summer, or with tights for fall. In fact you're inspiring me to dig out my red shorts once more and wear them with tights before it gets too cold. Also, I'll add my voice to the chorus saying that you have great legs!

  13. I love how happy you look. :) Just for me personally, I think I would have gone with tights under the shorts to create a more current, trendy look vs. the 70s hot pants look. However, you pull it off, darlin'!

    Oh, and LOVE the boa!

  14. I just wrote a comment and my computer ate it. Let me see if I can remember all of it.

Your body is SLAMM'N! Look at your legs. Holy cow. Beautiful. You look so pretty and really happy. Love the necklace and the scarf.

I can't remember the rest but it was really cool, I know that. ha

  16. Great gams! You wear the hot pants well! I think I'd do a high heel instead of a boot but I get you are sassing it up - you are the Mayor of Sassyville in this look! I so love and admire your attitude, btw. It's never too late indeed!

Just as an aside - I highly recommend you see the new Pedro Aldomovar movie "The Skin I Live In" . I just saw it and thought of you... it touched on some themes you explore in your blog Shybiker... It was also visually stunning and Antonio Banderas has never been hotter!

Hope you are having a great weekend! You need to host a disco party and dance all night in those hot pants of yours!

  18. Why the heck not? You have the best legs and if they were mine I'd be wearing those hot pants to do the shopping. You look totally comfortable and at ease with your outfit which always looks beautiful. x
PS The HA chapter is The Winos, their motto is "Kindness is our weakness" and they seemed a really sweet bunch.

  23. I love seeing your face lit up the way it is in these photos. But,... I'm afraid i'm going to have to hate you a little bit for having such gorgeous gams.

"...There's nothing stopping me from doing anything I want now as long as I don't mind being called silly.... If people want to criticize me for acting silly, I don't care. What's more important is the joy I can grab by pursuing my dreams, however late..."

This little passage couldn't have come at a better time for me. Thank you for the important reminder.

I really admire your bravery to take the path to become the butterfly you wish to be, Ally.

  24. You're so right!! Women do that all the time and it's half the fun! Pushing the limits and experimenting never hurt anybody! I love it!!! You look so happy! And although I think this is an outfit appropriate only for girls in their 20's (and not for all of them), you can be excused for not wanting to miss on the fun! Kisses :)

It's so great to see you trying things you couldn't when you were young, I so hope many people read this and get inspired!

  26. Wearing heels will always make your legs look sexier and longer. I didn't quite go through that process but I understand what you mean. Like I say, it's never too late for anything.
