Whole Lotta Shaking Going On

Had a great day today!  Went into New York City to see "Million Dollar Quartet," a musical about that special day in 1956 when Elvis, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis jammed together at Sun Studio in Memphis.

The show was great: superb performances threaded with history.  The whole audience jumped with joy at classic songs blasted with energy.

It was especially appropriate for me to wear my beloved red jacket from Lansky Bros.  I bought the jacket when I visited Memphis last year.  Bernie Lansky designed clothes for Elvis during his early years and this particular design (with vertical stripes) is exactly what Elvis wore before he became famous.

We also had a fabulous meal at The Delta Grill, one of my favorite places.  There are over 9,000 restaurants in NYC and only one serves New Orleans food: this one.  Even better, it re-creates the atmosphere of NOLA in every respect.  (I know this because I went to NOLA last Mardi Gras.)

By the way, what do you think of that shirt?  :)

I love being in the City: the air is electric.  Plus, you see things you never see anywhere else, like this young woman wearing a hat with ears!

  1. I want to go to there!

Looks like you're having a fabulous time. The last play I went to in NYC was Exit the King with Susan Sarandon and OMG, what an amazing play. I'm a big SS fan which made it that much more magical.

    Stay warm!

  6. Sounds like a great day. That hat you saw is too cute! It doesn't get cold enough here to wear anything like that. By the way, a fascinator is the feathery fancy thing you wear in your hair when you go to the horse races. What do you guys call them??

  8. Love your pictures of NYC and really love your shirt! The fabric is wonderful - it looks like a William Morris Liberty print. By the way, is that snow I can see on the ground in the last shot? *sigh*!

  9. I need to tell you all about Hillbrow sometime.
Your trip into the city looks awesome and the shirt and jacket are so kewl. Especially like the stripes on your jacket.

Thanks for mentioning me on your blog - that's so sweet of you. Guess some things are deeply ingrained - I can imagine I'd have battled with the miles and fahrenheit had our moved materialised ;-), but my daughter seems to be managing just fine.

You're a real honey. Hope your day is fabulous

  10. Love the red jacket. Didn't Elvis wear one of those in one of his movies or on an album cover? I seem to remember that for some odd reason. NYC looks like it was fun!

  11. Thanks, guys. It was fun and the weather was good for this time of year.

Angela, I looked up the word and apparently we use the same term; I had just never heard of it. You're a fashion-maven!

  18. Winter here isn't too bad and usually starts in December. I've lived through worse in other places (upstate NY; MA). Minnesota is certainly colder.
