Hit & Miss

Here's the pink skirt again in an outfit that should have worked but doesn't.

I constructed the outfit using an approach learned from other bloggers and, laid out on the bed, it looked great.  On my body, however, I noticed immediately that something is off -- the jacket doesn't hang right on my body.

Perhaps my shoulders are too big or my upper-body is too wide.  The jacket looks good on a hanger but awful on me.  Can you figure out why?

On the plus side, I like how well the color of the top complements the color of the skirt.  Don't you agree?

  1. I think the combo is great without the jacket :) or even better if the jacket would be black so it would match the shoes :)

  2. I'm not sure if this will work but try pulling the jacket down at the shoulder seam towards your bust. I do that sometimes and it works :)

  3. This would've looked better if the jacket was longer and covered the full length of the blouse. It might also be just a tad too large on you...

Otherwise, it's a wonderful (albeit unusual, I would've never thought of it) combination of warm pink and coral that lights up your face so nicely. :)

  4. I think the jacket is big and not cut very well. Brown shoes woud be a better switch than changing the jacket color, though. I love the color palette.

Better yet, taupe or beige shoes... don't match, but "go"

  5. I agree, colours are good, but the jacket just looks a little to big, I like the idea of beige/ nude shoes they would be nice!

  7. Oh, and regarding sizing... I face problems you probably don't and this complicates shopping and dressing for me.

Parts of my body are different sizes, according to conventional measurements for women's clothing. For example, to get an item to fit the top of my body, I usually need a 16-18 unless it's knit and stretches. But my lower body is smaller (no hips) and fits into 10-12. When I saw that this jacket was a 14, I assumed it'd fit or be small for me; instead, it's too big despite being a smaller size than I normally wear.

*sigh* The travails of being an unusual gal...

  10. The jacket is not the right cut for you. Careful of trapeze styles - those are ones that flare out at the hem - when you have broad shoulders. I tend to avoid them because of my big boobs, for the same reason: they take away all shape from the waist.

Look for jacket cuts that have waist detail (like a seam that goes around the waist), and that mimic an hourglass shape.

I love the two pinks together in this with the brown - the colours in this outfit are just lovely.

The shoes don't bother me - you don't have to match them to the jacket.

  11. Welcome to my world! Many women have size differences between top and bottom.... that's why suits suck and separates are the way to go!

  12. I actually like the color combination, however the jacket is not flattering...
have you tried wearing it rolled up sleeves and open ? Maybe with a black dress underneath ?

  14. I have the same issue as you, im much wider on top than on the bottom, so when I have a piece that i absolutely love that broadens my shoulders, i like to go for a fuller bottom, like wide legged trousers or a full skirt.
that being said, i love the combination of the 2 pinks!

  15. I'm trying to learn that lesson. Others have been recommending the same thing to me. Thanks.
