I'm Back!

It's no exaggeration when I say that outfit-posts are one of the chief joys in my life. Contemplating them, creating an attractive ensemble, assembling its pieces and putting them all together are creative acts I find immensely enjoyable. Sharing the fruit of that labor with you -- and getting feedback -- is delightful.

Outfit-posts were, indeed, the initial impetus for this blog. Over a decade ago I wanted to connect with others on feminine activities and appearance. Because outfit-posts, for me, are laborious I supplement them with updates on my other activities, my views on social issues and miscellaneous items. But those are supposed to be side dishes, not the main course.

The Coronavirus disrupted our lives in varying ways. For me, it's hindered my ability to create outfits. I'm grateful you've hung around in their absence. I know you gals don't care about motorcycles or other subjects I post about so your continued visits are deeply appreciated.

I'm back to outfit-posts. No matter what I need to do to make them, I'll post more. This is not only for you but for me: I need the satisfaction they bring to my soul.

Here we go...

I start with a simple dress from Charlotte Russe (on sale for $12). To brighten it, I add a yellow belt; yellow brings sunshine to any outfit. My legs glisten with metallic gold fishnets and metallic gold platform heels which lift me seven feet high. I finish with some matching jewelry and complementary eye-shadow (yellow and green).

Two pro tips: When wearing fishnet stockings, wear nude pantyhose underneath or else the fishnets cut into your feet like a cheese grater. Ouch!

Second, did you know they make arm makeup? Yup and I need it in Summer when my t-shirts give me dark tan on my forearms and no tan above the elbow. It looks jarring when wearing sleeveless women's clothing so lightening the forearms with makeup is essential. Easy fix.

Thoughts?

  1. It's so awesome to see you managed to get an outfit post together. Who doesn't want to be seven feet tall? You're Superwoman!

  2. Yay! I love your outfit posts, Ally! I love the black/yellow/turquoise colour combo here - it's very cheery. Yellow makes everything better. I am guilty of also matching my eyeshadow to my outfits (in some quarters this is a no-no, but I don't give a fork).

Sorry about the fishnets - I've had them eat my toes too! I guess that wasn't in the handbook? ;-P

    1. If you don't know it, you quickly learn it -- through terrible pain.

  5. I like the look. I also understand that not getting dressed for a while or putting together an outfit leaves a void that needs to be filled.

    1. Boy, do I have a void! My mood was slipping into irritable and that's always a bad sign; I'm a natural Pollyanna. I know you'll understand my difficulty -- lack of privacy at home to engage in this activity.

    1. One of the reasons I like you! Your high intelligence and curiosity. Few share those traits.

  7. I love your outfit posts, Ally, although I do understand putting an outfit together and photographing it can be quite a chore these days. But what a sparkling one you've created here. The dress is sweet and adding the yellow belt gives it more oomph. Your sparkly fishnets and platforms are a joy to behold. I haven't worn fishnets for many years, but I recently thrifted some, so thank you for the tip! xxx

    1. Thanks, pal. My real impediment now is lack of privacy at home to engage in this activity.

  10. Hello there, stylish lady! What a fun, vibrant ensemble. I feel like the colours here bridge the punchy hues of summer and the darker + more golden shades of autumn to a tee.

Have an awesome final weekend of the season, my friend!

    1. Yes, the colors are a subliminal transition for the seasons. Great to hear from you!

  11. Love it! I like fishnets, but found that same skin irritating factor. I actually found a smaller fishnet weave not so hard on the skin. The sparkly tights and shoes rock!

  12. I missed your outfit posts! So beautiful! The dress is great and I love the glittery golden tights and shoes. Would I wear this outfit? Yes, please!

  13. SEVEN?????? Wow!!!! I take my hat off to you to be able to wear such statuesque heels- I just can't!
Your legs look amazing- so shapely and long! I must confess that I don't really like Fishnets because they are so hard to get on and the patterns they leave on my leg get itchy! Your tip might help...if I were to wear them! I think the last time I wore them was for a production of Cabaret back in 2004! All the band had to go in drag Inc fishnets! I had an absurdly short flapper dress that I had last worn aged 14!
The colours and the colour blocking work REALLY well in this outfit! Woohoo nice to see you back in your comfort zone and your happy place, it shows in your eyes! I do like the other posts though- you teach me things- but I did miss your outfits!

  14. Looking great from head to toe...I love yellow but of course I love your eyeshadow the most! I like how you mixed the neutral heel with a colorful dress. And yes, I did know about arm makeup...I don't think there's any body part they don't make makeup for!
