Fashion Rules

A bright blogger I follow ("Mrs. Bossa") just put up a great post on whether we should follow "rules" in fashion.  She excerpted comments made by other bloggers -- including me! -- to show the range of opinion on this tricky subject.  Best of all, the comments are illustrated with pictures of the bloggers making them.

It's an intriguing and educational piece, perhaps one of the best blog-posts I've ever read.  Check it out!

  5. I enjoyed reading the different takes on it.

For me, dressing to flatter my shape is usually better than not and can directly affect my mood all day. For instance, I was initially happy with the maternity jeans and pants I got at Old Navy...but every time I wore them, I realized I did not feel good about my bod in them. I felt like they added way more visual weight than I'd actually gained, and I don't mean in my belly, I mean everywhere else. I got new pants at Motherhood by Heidi Klum over the weekend and am now planning to take all the others back! There is SUCH a MAJOR difference in how I look (and therefore feel) in them!! The new ones are like they were made just for me.

Having said all that, I do own things that I love SO MUCH that it doesn't matter if they're flattering...I can feel good just having them on because I love them. Sometimes rules are meant to be broken, especially in fashion, and I don't really believe in following a rule book anyway. But there are certain tips/tricks you can use to accentuate your best features, and it can go a long way in increasing your self-esteem. But I don't see a need to follow a checklist when getting ready; it's more about how you feel in things.
