Sometimes it's odd to be female on the inside and male on the outside. Socially I'm forced to live among men while often feeling strange in their company. Here's an example.
Do you know that in many restaurants -- including fancy ones -- the men's bathrooms are decorated with soft-core porn images of naked/semi-naked women? It's quite common, even in places that are respectable chains. This is very popular in places with bars.
Restaurant owners apparently believe these images appeal to their male patrons and won't offend anyone. I'm sure if women used these bathrooms there'd be complaints but gender-segregation keeps them out and unaware.
I don't visit women's bathrooms but I doubt there are naked pictures of men in there. Are there? What do you think about this?
Holy shit, really? I'm going to start polling my male friends about this. There are no images of men in women's washrooms, although I remember a 'family style' restaurant that had movie stars, like Elvis and James Dean pictures, that sort of thing. Usually, it's just restaurant ads (rent our party room! come to trivia!) or art.

DeleteI've never heard of men's bathrooms being decorated with soft porn images, and I can't imagine it being a thing here. Except for the bathrooms in particular establishments, possibly. I do think it's quite offensive, to be honest. I'd be offended if there were pictures of naked men in the women's bathrooms, that's for sure! xxx
ReplyDeleteI must be visiting the wrong men's restrooms, I've never seen images of women. To be honest, I never pay attention once I am inside a restroom, I am IN and OUT after I finish doing my business, lol

ReplyDeleteI do know one of the Nashville zoo restrooms has a snake enclosure in the men's room (fsure) and monkey in the other (supposedly).
And i know in hotel lobby restrooms, the women's room often has sofas and chairs. Mens do not. At least not the Marriot or Sheraton we stayed at for conventions. Confirmed via male friends who were jealous of the sofas.
Honestly, I'd just be happy with less of a door gap and locks that actually keep doors shut. Seems to be an issue no matter where I go - fancy places or not!
I've certainly been in some strange bathrooms. One place I went was basically an art installation - a flashing light went off in intervals and your shadow got "stuck". The after images layered over and disappeared by every 3rd flash or so.
And the women's bathroom at least, at Planet Hollywood had crazy tile that looked like it was moving.
I think the craziest one I have run into was a couple years ago, I visited a bar with my brother and in the women's restroom (not the mens) the wall was covered in fake plants/ivy and vintage handmirrors studded up and down the wall.
Confirmation the Nashville zoo ladies has a view into the tamarind monkey exhibit. The snake exhibit is directly over the urinals in the mens.

DeleteYuck!!!!! I've just my husband if it's like that in the UK and he's said he's never seen It! Seemed a bit bemused at the idea. Admittedly he doesn't go to swanky restaurants or clubs but not seen It in places he has been!
ReplyDeleteEw! I had no idea! I'm going to ask my husband. I had to use the men's room once in an emergency, but it was at a rest stop (LOL) and it looked exactly the same as the women's. That's pretty gross though. And for the record, I have never seen half-naked sexualized images of men in any ladies' rooms!
