Psst...

Can you keep a secret?

I've decided to buy a new motorcycle. But I don't like to talk publicly about stuff before it happens so please don't tell anyone.  :-)   I'm waiting until my new garage is completed later this month before bringing it home.

The bike has a vintage, retro-style that transports me back to the 1950s. I figured, since I'll be riding in that era, I should dress the part so I just bought a new leather jacket. It's the classic 1950s badass look for bikers. It's the same style Marlon Brando wore in "The Wild One" which created a fashion trend.

This jacket was hugely popular back then and became so notorious that many schools forbid students from wearing them. The jackets were believed to create "bad boys" and girls who'd cause trouble. It's funny how clothing can have such power.

What do you think of the style?

  5. Very very cool. My dad has a jacket very similar. People have asked him more than once if he rides a motorcycle. He doesn't, but he is a very cool person. Leather jackets are cool with or without a bike, but it sounds like you're going to add something really cool to your collection.

  6. F**kin A, Ally, you look completely badass! Part of the course I did through the Metropolitan Museum of Art last year examined the role of Brando's jacket in representing that badass and how people wanted to get some of that Brando feeling from wearing the same or similar jacket. Even when I wear a pink wool motorcycle jacket I feel badass, so it totally works.

Excited to see what kind of bike you get! I'm going to guess an Indian.

    1. Thanks! Badass is definitely what I was aiming at.

Indian is a good guess but no, it's not. Hard to believe but the brand I'm choosing is even OLDER than Indian. It was founded in 1901 and is the oldest motorcycle marque in continuous existence.

  8. I love your new leather jacket! I always loved leather jackets. I have a vintage leather jacket my husband got from his brother before I was born. I love to wear it because not only is it absolutely beautiful but it makes me think of both my husband and his late brother.

  10. A new bike is a great asset to 2022! Can't to see it, hope you show us soon! I own a 73 Honda CB350 but don't ride it anymore but I still love looking at it and remembering all those empowering memories. If I were to buy another bike I would definitely go for comfort for long hauls. Happy New Year. I use to blog under the name Walking Colors and wanted to see if you were still blogging and you are!

    1. Thanks for visiting! Happy New Year. I know what you mean about memories -- I recently re-acquired my first motorcycle (an old Vulcan 750) and plan to display it since it doesn't run any more.

  11. Same here! I am usually loath to discuss things - at least ones that I deem important to me - before they've come to fruition or are, ideally, well on their way to doing so.

This is such an exciting thing to share though and I can easily see why you let us in on the good news early.

I hope that your newest ride is a joy and that you experience tons of awesome adventures on it.
