April Fool's Joke

Every year, I play an April Fool's joke on my wife Robin. She's always on high alert but never sees it coming.

This year, I planned to get her early. She wakes up at a ridiculous hour (6 a.m.) to commute into the city. She stumbles half-asleep into the shower while I'm still in bed. I figured she'd never expect me to prank her while I'm asleep so, the night before, I put a helium balloon of a pirate ship into our shower. I blocked view of it with a towel so she couldn't see the pirate ship until she opened the glass shower door. Half-asleep. Early in the morning before coffee.

Eeeekkk!!! Pirates in the bathroom!!! I heard her shriek in horror. And then curse my name.

Robin was equal parts amused and annoyed. She hates admitting she fell for my joke because she wants to believe she's smarter than that. But one should never underestimate my cleverness...

Did you play any jokes this year?

  1. Ha ha! No jokes here. One year I should do something for my husband though.

  2. That would be a shock to see something large like that in the shower. I'd think at first it was a person standing there waiting for me. Creepy!

  3. When I saw this on Facebook, I immediately wanted to run to the store and buy a balloon. And then I got lazy and had a glass of wine instead. Plus, my kids have gotten smarter over the years and now Henry always knows when we're trying to fool him! I think the balloon would have worked, though! Next year...

  5. That's a cute prank! Most pranks I pull are kind of mean, which is why I find them funny ;) This year I convinced my friend/coworker/bridesmaid that Matt and I were going to elope at the courthouse during lunch. I was going on about how stressful planning has been and how over it I am, then I started gushing about how much money we'd save and that the deposits we'd lose would be small change. I had her going for a few minutes and was just about to offer to refund her the cost of her bridesmaid dress when she realized it was April 1!

  6. LOL!!!! I was in on a joke on a co-worker ~Thankfully it wasn't mean and ended up with him getting a bottle of red wine to say sorry for the stress caused him.

  8. oh my! that's so funny!
I'm awful at making jokes, seriously. This april fool I did my best and hid one of your dogs. It was a bit funny watching my husband running around the place and looking for him (while he safely slept in the closet). however that was my best joke ever made.

  10. Hahahaha. That's hilarious! One good April Fool's joke I heard this year was that a woman set out some Oreo cookies for her son and in one of the stack she set out, she replaced the filling with toothpaste!

  11. Were under staffed at work and I called up my boss and said that I was to sick to come in. After a couple of seconds of awkward silence, I told him it was a April Fools Joke. He told me that I am going to cop it next year, yikes.

  14. I love that your annual pranks are good nature and not truly scary (to most folks at least). Those are the only kind I want to be involved with on either side of the coin when April 1st rolls around.

Wishing you and Robin both a fantastic Easter weekend,
    ♥ Jessica
