Bodysuits, which have always appealed to me, are making a fashion comeback. They were very popular in the Sixties and Seventies, made a splash in high fashion during the Eighties, and were worn by tweens in the Nineties. Now, a few designers like Alix are bringing them back.
Bodysuits are usually described as leotards with snap-crotches but the new ones don't all look like leotards upstairs; some have long, fluffy sleeves and some aren't form-fitting.
Bodysuits are versatile and look great with jeans or a skirt. They can appear in both casual and formalwear.
Would you wear one?
If i was shaped anything like the models in the pics, maybe I would feel differently but as things stand (and bump and lump and battle gravity in vain) I'm going to have to give the snap-crotch body suit an "OH, HELL NO!" :DReplyDelete
Thanks for the early-morning laugh, Fuzzy!Delete
These are THE WORST!!! When you have to go to the bathroom they are a nightmare. And I know because when I was a kid for baton we used to have to wear them to class. I really dislike them. They pull at your crotch. I had to wear one for ballet as well which I took a few years ago. I do not care for them one bit. This is one you won't be seeing me in.ReplyDelete
I always wondered about possible discomfort, especially (as you note) when going to the bathroom. Your point is well-taken.Delete
If I were thinner, I would be all over these! I was one of the tweens in the 90's wearing them and loved them!ReplyDelete
I definitely wore them in the 80s and 90s and I don't think I ever will again. They are quite uncomfortable. MAYBE, like Fuzz said, if I were model shaped. Because I do quite like how they look! Mimi had on a leotard with harem pants yesterday and she was pulling it off beautifully! But I think I will leave them for 5-year olds and models only.ReplyDelete
Well... I don't think I can pass for a 5-year old but how 'bout I say I'm a model? I'll even pay dues to whatever organization I need to to qualify as someone entitled to wear a bodysuit. :-)Delete
Well, now I feel bad.I was only speaking for myself, of course! I think you should wear whatever you like and I am sure you would look lovely!Delete
I always wanted one of those James Bond Cat suits the girls wore in the older series. Love them!! would wear it to party perhaps :)ReplyDelete
I was obsessed with bodysuits/leotards. I had them in all the colors until I was like 6 or 7. I thought they were graceful, comfortable, easy! Who needed pants?ReplyDelete
I still like the idea of them as something to tuck in, but like the other commenter - lumps and bumps keep me away from them. I tried on swimsuits today, much to my distaste. Gained weight isn't sitting well on me.
I would totally wear a bodysuit. I really like them :)ReplyDelete
I was in gymnastics for years and wore them ALL the time! I have a crazy vintage one that is a little snug... But maybe I can pull it on for a photo-shoot because you've inspired me :DReplyDelete
How fun that they're making a splash again on the fashion seen. I had a few when I was in grade school (early 90s), the prettiest of which was a lovely burgundy, green and cream floral print one that I wore most frequently with dark green pants. I'd certainly sport them again these days. They're handy and attractive, and can go well with certain 50s outfits, as your first (great!) photo here alludes to.ReplyDelete
When I was younger and a whole lot slimmer I loved them ~ If I was still that slim I would most definitely get them back in my wardrobe.ReplyDelete
I wore the snap crotch ones when I was six years old and have not worn any since, snaps or no snaps. Even if I did want to, I would likely have trouble finding one with a long enough torso for me. xoReplyDelete
Oh… its a comeback I am SOOOO skipping !ReplyDelete
I remember loving these because they looked and made me felt like a ballerina.. but wearing them was awful mostly because I practically had to strip to go to the bathroom.
I wear a leotard to control my jiggly belly when I belly dance but I don't have much interest in wearing a body suit for fashion... well maybe I'd feel differently if I were thinner?ReplyDelete
No thank you... I remember having a couple in the late 80s when I was 8/9 years old - I was sure I looked awesome in them, but now I realise it's not something I want to repeat :) :)ReplyDelete
Oh, God. Not again!!! lol Because I know I'm gonna be tempted to try one as a trend-follower, but I also know the nightmares that will probably ensue. lol I did used to wear them often as a kid, in the 80s when they were THE thing. But now...I'd be way too self-conscious about my stomach and "love handles" (although I haaaate saying that because it shouldn't matter), not to mention I'd feel like I was wearing one of J's old onesies. The snaps and crotch are so uncomfy and difficult to maneuver when you're in public, and they pull on you. I'm a high-waisted gal, and wearing any shirt tucked in typically is not at all flattering on me - at least in my view - and this would be even worse. Again...hate that I succumb to that feeling, but it is what it is; even self-love advocates are human. ;)ReplyDelete
BUT...if you've never tried one, or even if you have and want to again, DO IT! You might be pleasantly surprised and have a completely different response! Won't know til you try!
Thanks for your honest response, Jen. I understand everything you say. I wear leotards a lot (I love dancewear) but haven't found a bodysuit in any stores.Delete
If there are snaps at the crotch, no bathroom probs. Can't say the same about jumpsuits...ReplyDelete
I'm with Fuzzy. Besides, those things with their snap-crotches may mean bathroom stops are possible, but are usually a real bitch to get refastened after a potty break.ReplyDelete
I wore these the first time they were easily available in my lifetime--the 90s. My problem with them was it was a pain to pee and I have a slight amount of scoliosis, so they never fit my shoulders. One shoulder is a little higher than the other so in most shirts I'm fine, but it stood out in body suits. Weird, huh?ReplyDelete
