Back In The Saddle

After an exceptionally demanding week at work, I needed to relax.  So I turned to my favorite activity -- building an outfit.  I spent leisurely hours today doing this.

The outfit, oddly, starts with a belt.  I saw this cute silver belt while thrifting two weeks ago and snapped it up for $1.99.  What a bargain!

To highlight the belt, my dress needs to be plain.  No design except shape.  Single color.  Shopping at Fox's (discount store), I found a perfect one.  Yellow (seasonal) with light embossed pattern in the cloth.  Plus, it fits me like a glove due to its elasticity.

Completing the look, I realized I don't own any lipstick this color so I stopped at a drugstore on the way home and got some.  I like the shade I picked.

What do you think?  Any different choices you might have made?

  1. The dress is so pretty, as is the lipstick color! I also like the pairing of silver and gray with yellow. Have you tried wearing capri leggings under a dress like this? That would be a fun look, too,

  3. I LOVE the belt. Not being a lipstick girl I cannot really comment. The length of the dress highlights your killer legs. Glad you could unwind doing this and then sharing with us.

  4. I love the dress and all of the matching metallic accessories. I think they are a great contrast, the delicate simple dress and the tougher shiny accessories. Très belle!

  5. I think you picked the perfect lipstick for the dress, My favourite lipstick at the moment is the same colour and running out fast, I wear it so much. I always put leggings or thick tights under dresses but that's just my personal choice, you have great legs so you should show them off! xx

  8. I agree, the lipstick color you chose is a great compliment to the dress color. I still hope to do the fancy dress party in response to your orange gown a few posts back. May I leave a link in your comments when I do?

  10. Love that belt, and the yellow is just gogeous. It kinda feels like a 60's look to me and I love anything retro so I'm really loving this look. The lippy is such a great color, one I normally wouldn't dare try to wear but it looks great on you.

Stunning legs as usual Ally .. really am envious ;D

  11. I like that the dress still has a subtle print, but doesn't overwhelm the belt.

  12. LOVE the belt. I have two metal belts that are so awesome. I usually do the same and let them be the star of the show. Love the lip color. Makes me want to try an orange lippie. Maybe I will play a little with the makeup I can wear now that I have a job to dress up for!

  21. The yellow is such a fun print and you really do have fantastic legs. Have you ever thought about wearing some of your brighter colours with longer hair? You could also go completely bonkers with heart shaped accessories to go with the belt!

  26. Whenever our male office assistant sees an outfit he thinks works especially well, he says, "Sassy!" So you get, "SASSY!"

  27. I would have topped it with a 3/4 sleeve cardi and some over-sized sunglasses to give it more of a Jackie O feel. But you're rockin' it just fine!

  28. Love that belt!
I think it's pretty versatile- a flowing day dress cinched with that belt would look pretty cool too. I would pair it with an A-line skirt and an oversized T.
