"Scatter My Ashes At Bergdorf's"

My favorite clothing store is Bergdorf Goodman.  It is the Mecca of Fashion.  I'm on their e-mail list and their ads are so enticing.

A documentary about the store was released today and I'm eager to see it.  Once I do, I'll give you guys a review.  If you see it first, please let us know what you think.

There's a trailer for the movie here.  My mouth is watering...

Let me hasten to add, in all candor, that I've never actually bought anything from Bergdorf's.  I just ogle the wares in their catalog and store.  Of course, you'd need to be seriously flush to shop top-designer clothing.  I use their clothes as a source of ideas and inspiration.  Then I go to discount and thrift-stores to create the best I can.

What are your favorite clothing stores?

  2. You can sure tell I am not a REAL fashionista as I have never even heard of this store before!!

Hmmm thats a good question regarding favorite stores. I am just thinking that if someone gave me a huge chunk of money to go buy clothes as my favorite store I would be at a loss for an answer. I seem to find bits and pieces here and there...lame answer I know but hey.. ask me about bikes I can spend BIG money and FAST :)

  3. I've never even been in the same city as a Bergdorf. But just clicking through, there's a drool worth Belstaff coat that makes my heart sing.

I went into my favorite "retail" store (Rugged Warehouse) and wound up super disappointed. I stick with thrifting, because I can occasionally find things that make my heart sing.

I still want to visit an actual Anthropologie one day, but the closest is over an hour and a half away.

Ultimately, I really just love to find well crafted pieces no matter where they come from. You can tell by touching a garment if it is quality. The seams, the fabric, the craftsman ship will show through.

  4. I'd be very interested to see that film too. I'm not a retail store customer, the closest I get is online but even then I'm choosy and usually end up buying vintage, handmade or locally made clothing. Op shops are my Mecca :) xoxoxo

  5. If I had a wad of extra cash I would send it on over so you could shop to your hearts content at Bergdorfs. I am not a fashionista so I buy wherever I see something I like. We dont have thrift stores like you guys have in America but there are a number of charity stores opening which I think I will go and check out.

  6. I know nothing about B.G's but the name reminds me of How To Marry a Millionaire as Schatze's preferred place to meet men. Personally I prefer opshops and outlets these days.

  8. Ooohh, I'll be eagerly looking forward to your review. Back in the day, Canada had its fair share of department stores, and still has a couple of main chains (Sears and The Bay, namely), but we've not had the plethora of high end department stores that our neighbours to the south do. The one key exception (especially nowadays) is Holt Renfrew (which is really lux). I wish some of the big US players in this market would hop over the border and set up shop here, too (a gal needs her window shopping fix sometimes!).

  13. Holy shit, I just looked at their prices!! What kind of occupation must one have in order to afford a $3000 dinner dress?? Wow!! But I can look at some of the designers they mention in my "Pretty Little Liars" books, I bet - haha.

  14. I've not been on Blogger much over the past few weeks so I'm working my way backwards through your posts and catching up with all you've been up to, I'll try to restrain myself from commenting on every single one! I've heard of Bergdorf's, I didn't know its real name was Bergdorf Goodman, I guess the Goodmans must be annoyed that their name always gets dropped. We have shops like that here and when I'm feeling confident I like to go in just for a nosy, like you I use them for inspiration, and I also make liberal use of the perfume counter and try the expensive scents. I mostly buy second hand clothes from charity shops, or car boot sales when I can get to them, but now and then I'll treat myself to something from my catalogue, that way I can spread the cost over a few months. xx

  15. Not going to lie... oddity that I am, it's movies and television costuming that I covet (and often attempt to reproduce).

Might have to check out this store that inspires such nifty looks.
