Funny Pix

I like funny pictures.  It's always nice to laugh.

The first picture illustrates how motorcyclists think.  We seek every opportunity to push the physical envelope of space and time.

This next picture is an actual advertisement from the 1950's.  It shows how far we've come.

The next photo is a visual pun.  Here's a picture of a cat and mouse...

And the last picture is Pandy's favorite...

  1. I had to laugh at the first photo--as I am CERTAIN this is how my grandson regards a shopping cart. And those cupcakes are darling!

  2. Hee hee too cute! Love the kitten at the computer. My cat, Gomez, who I mentioned in today's post used to put his paw over my hands when I was typing to stop me. The sounds of me hitting the keyboard were keeping him up! The grumpy old cat.

  3. I love the old advertisement! After years of Mad Men, I find myself looking very critically at ads and especially the one's from that era.

  4. But don't let Pandy eat the chocolatey desserts!!!! That would almost be cannibalism for heaven's sake!

My husband and I both cracked up at the first pic, I can just see him trying that next time we go to the supermarket :)

  6. That old ad is aggravating. So glad things have progressed enough to at least make it obsolete.

    1. I have some other old ads that are more aggravating. They make the point even stronger but I didn't want to upset anyone by showing them.

    2. I don't know that it really is obsolete. I think it just points out the natural tendency for men to want to please their spouse and prevent their (perceived) unhappiness.

Do they recommend capitalizing on that tendency? Sure, though it seems quite tongue in cheek to me - does anyone actually think the ad is meant to be literal and instructive?

    3. The ad seems generally geared toward shopping for the holidays - something which still happens, but it's the products that they focused on and how they referred to women.

For many women wanting to get kitchenware for christmas is totally a thing of the past. And crying to get a toaster? Not sure that happens so much anymore.

    4. Well, old cynic that I am, yeah, it's totally sexist. It's mildly tongue in cheek but it's definitely pandering to the notion that women belong in the kitchen and they're happy there, so long as they have their super-duper appliances that they acquired by manipulating a man with a paycheck. Not exactly empowering.

That particular image may be obsolete but it's been replaced by others in advertising. Girls in bikinis are still used to sell beer and cars, super moms still do a hell of a lot of laundry, and God help old ladies-they must be dead because you never see them except in medicare ads or as a funny foil to all the "normal" people.

But you know, this is an improvement. I'm waiting for the day when people aren't put into tight little boxes of any kind. When a casting call for an ad doesn't specify age, gender, or race as the primary determining factor for who gets the job and sells us our soap/beer/deodorant/car/hamburger helper/power tools.

All that aside, Ally-your photos made me laugh too. Thanks.

  11. That first picture made me think about how aerialist think about space. I always see things and think about how I could climb it or hand my fabric off of it and train.

That ad from the 50's is cray!

    Love you!

  12. You should make panda one of these cupcakes :) HA that ad is reminiscent of the mentality at a wedding I attended last week, very backwards thinking! You are so sweet, your comment made me glow, I truly hope we can meet someday!
