While I never got that chance, my life isn't over. I found this delicious dress at a thrift-store this week (Savers). Thrifting is a blessing for those of us who want to play with clothes but need to stay within a budget. The dress cost less than I usually spend for dinner.
The style of the dress appeals to me, as do the colors. I didn't wear a necklace to avoid interfering with the cute neckline and stripes. I'm not sure how else the dress could be styled, but it rocks by itself. Any ideas on other ways to present it?
The dangling earrings were a recent gift from my friends, Lynne and Megan.
I had some free time, so I spent a little extra effort on my makeup (purple and gold eyeshadow). I'm not proficient at this stuff, but applying it feels easier and gives me deep joy.
That is one Hell of a dress! I LOVE it!! I never have any luck at thrift stores. If I were in NY I would probably have better luck lol. I think you styled this perfectly with earrings and bracelets. You look Great!
ReplyDeleteGORgeous dress, Ally. I'm in love with it. The colors are perfect for your skin tone. Your hair, makeup and nails are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteLove you,
Tracy
What a fantastic dress! It really suits you and brings the eyes up to your lovely face (great work on the make-up). Love your red nails!
ReplyDeleteI like the dress just as you have it. I wouldn't wear a necklace either. In the winter wear it with tights, boots and a cardi. Great find Ally.
ReplyDeleteThat's a cute dress!!!

OH...I also think some sort of animal print shoes would add interest.
ReplyDeleteYou look amazing ! (insert whistles here)
ReplyDeleteI think you chose well - the colors and the shape - it really looks great. I can totally see that you know it too... you look so happy.
And you said you were shaped like a cylinder! Look at those curves, this outfit looks great on you! And make up is my favorite part of getting dressed up, so I'm glad you have fun with it. :)
ReplyDeleteOoohlala! I think this dress does highlight curves all your own. The dress is fantastic, I love the mod color blocking. I think it would look great with a cozy sweater and tights for cooler weather. If you wanted to try a belt, I'd stick to thinner ones - a bolder belt might cover the shape the dress gives you.
ReplyDeleteAlso I'm so impressed at your make-up. You've improved leaps and bounds since I've started reading your blog.
Also hooray for the nailpolish! Red nails are the chic-est accessory!
What a stunning dress- I love the cut and colour and how you kept it simple with the bracelets- it would also look great with some sort of blazer or cardigan! Great purple eyeshadow- now I am in a makeup mood!
ReplyDeleteOMG, you look gorgeous! This dress is wonderful. Look at the cut of the waistline how it dips in beautifully. I love the top part and the colors. And it's the perfect length to show off your sexy legs. Love the peep toe shoes, earrings and bracelets too. And may I just go on...? :) You nails and makeup look lovely. I never even bother to do my fingernails because I ruin them too quickly...and I've never in my life been able to apply eye shadow. You did a great job on styling AND makeup. And...your hair is really pretty. Love the little slight side swoop of bangs.
ReplyDeleteYou need a fancy night out in that! That dress was a definite score.
This is a most excellent dress! And it is perfectly accessorized! And the makeup looks very natural.
ReplyDeleteIt is a very flattering dress and I can see why you were drawn to it. It's very 60's in color and shape along with the graphic pattern. You certainly don't need a necklace.
ReplyDeleteOoh retro! I love it! I often think I was born at the wrong time, I love the styles of the 60s! This was a great find and it hugs you in all the right places, not to mention the color is just so fun! I'm jealous, lol!
ReplyDeleteThat dress is adorable! You rock it. I think it looks great with minimal accessories.
ReplyDeleteMay the force be with you.

Perfect! I love this! You let the dress speak for itself (awesome) and chose accessories that flatter your pretty face, and I'ma give you the Tim Gunn Seal of Approval. If he had one :)
ReplyDeleteYou look really nice! I have been playing around with color on my eyes recently, too! I think the dress fits you perfectly.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE THIS DRESS! And I LOVE the way YOU look in this dress!!! When you become tired of this in your wardrobe, you must let me buy it from you!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is what I love about vintage. I think this dress looks so modern and chic. You look amazing in it! You could have posted it and I guarantee you no one would have been the wiser…great find!
