Vintage Anew

I love vintage clothing but, up until now, didn't own any.  Then a package unexpectedly arrived in the mail this week -- a gift from fellow-blogger Kallie!  Her blog (happy, honey + lark) is one of the best around, so go visit it.  Kallie is a New Yorker like me.

Kallie sent this lovely dress, which reminds me of clothes women wore when I was young.  Back then, I ached to wear things as pretty as this but was forbidden from doing so.  Wearing this dress now is like having a long-held dream come true.

The dress has a classic design which I'm sure your mother once wore.  The color is interesting.

I played with the dress several ways.  Which do you like?

  1. What a beautiful colour and I love the detailing on the waist! I like the first look the best-keeping it simple with the beautiful necklace. Have a great weekend :)

  2. The color and the cut are just amazing and I like it best in outfit one as well - that necklace looks great with it.

  3. How awesome of her to send you such a cute dress! That color is just amazing. I like the first look the best. I think the dress is pretty enough without adding a lot to it!!!

  4. This is very seriously one of the most fabulous dresses I have seen on a fashion blog. The color of that dress is incredibly lovely. I really wish I owned a piece of clothing (even if just a t-shirt!) in that shade of blue. And the style is so elegantly vintage. This is a dress I could imagine my hero Anne Marie (That Girl) wearing on a night out. ;)

I think it looks perfect with just that beautiful necklace, the dark tights, and the gold flats (which are brilliant, by the way).

This is my favorite outfit of yours yet. Where is my bloggy fairy godmother?! Lol.

  7. So cuuuuute! The color is perfect. It would look great with a leopard-print coat and/or a chunky necklace. Or even just on its own ...

  8. Oh, that dress is so fun! I would wear a swing jacket with it, and maybe nude fishnets with gold pumps to play off the buttons.

  9. Congrats on the new dress! I think my favorite styling is with the necklace. I really love that shade of blue. I agree with Francy Flicks, it would look great with leopard print.

  10. I like the first look the very best then the one with the scarf. I remember dresses like that growing up and I do still love them. It is a beautiful color and the style is so very classic and yet modern too. you look very good in it. I like your hair styled with the bangs more to the side too. Very classy.

  13. I adore the new dress - I think I am partial to the gold cardi, to play off the gold flats. all the looks are terrific though, imho.

  14. I think the necklace is the most appropriate for the vintage of the dress, but my personal fave is the dark green scarf. Is it velvet? I love how it ties together the tights with the bright blue of the dress.

I read recently that you can't go wrong wearing shoes close to the color of your hair, and I think you really rocked that! Excellent styling here :-)

  15. The first look is my favourite; it allows the dress to shine (and showcases the pretty necklace). I like your choice of olive tights and gold shoes with this!

  21. That dress is so nice. What great friends you have, Ally! I really like how you used a totally different color with your tights and then added sparkle with the necklace and flats.
