Touching The Past

I'm writing a letter to a 93-year old neighbor who, during my childhood, often invited me into her house after school for milk and cookies because my mom was still at work. Telling Mrs. Devine how much I appreciated her kindness makes me feel good.

Why don't you write a letter today? You'll enjoy it.

  3. Excellent advice! I always say I'll write some letters or postcards, but it always gets put on the backburner. I needed this reminder, thank you.

  4. What a lovely idea, and how wonderful that you're still in touch with Mrs. Devine. By coincidence, I dreamed about my childhood next door neighbour last night. Maybe I should write her a letter too? What a cute photo! xxx

  6. It's so important to show your appreciation in a meaningful way. Even an email is better than never saying anything.

  7. I think that is such a fantastic idea. Recently a little boy on instagram saw that my son's fishtank had exploded and he wanted to send him a note. So his mom asked permission - we just received the letter and the look on my son's face was absolutely priceless. My son wrote him one back. I really hope that this continues. They are the same age and live a few provinces apart.

  8. This day and age we would be hesitant to allow our kids into our neighbour's houses due to stranger danger. How lovely you lived in a kinder less cautious era.

    1. Life was better back then. Neighbors made an effort to know each other and trust developed. My mother and Mrs. Devine considered each other good friends. When repairs needed to be done on either's house, my dad and Mr. Devine contributed their effort.

  9. This is so very nice of you. I am certain getting that letter will be the highlight of her week. You should include some cookies with the letter.
