Last Call

Lately I've been living life like someone who hears the bartender yell, "Last call."

I'm acting with a sense of urgency. I don't waste time or opportunity. The frenzy isn't due to an awareness of mortality, although there's a bit of that. No, my heightened activity is motivated by positive force -- i.e., desire. Pent-up, half-century old desire to be my true self.

I won't bore you with tales of my past, but I'm throwing caution to the wind. Before I die, I want to live. No matter what. And that includes, very especially, women's clothes.

Here's what I wore today. It was fun to assemble and joyous to wear. I'm displaying a pin that my best friend Ashley gave me. It's cute and fit the outfit perfectly.

What do you think?

(P.S., At the end of this post is a famous poem.)

This poem was written over 300 years ago in 1648. It is called "To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time."

Gather ye rosebuds while ye may,
Old Time is still a-flying;
And this same flower that smiles today
To-morrow will be dying.

The glorious lamp of heaven, the sun,
The higher he's a-getting,
The sooner will his race be run,
And nearer he's to setting.

That age is best which is the first,
When youth and blood are warmer;
But being spent, the worse, and worst
Times still succeed the former.

Then be not coy, but use your time,
And, while ye may, go marry:
For having lost but once your prime,
You may forever tarry.

  2. That pin is fabulous! The whole outfit is so different from what you normally wear. It is great to see you pushing your boundaries.

    I love that poem. I reminds me of my favourite poem of all time, Nothing Gold Can Stay. I memorized it when I was about 12 when I read The Outsiders for the first time.

    There is of course no better moment than now to act upon your dreams.

    1. I know what you mean about the outfit. I believe it's important for me to explore all styles of womens clothing. Doing so, I discover unexpected delights, like things looking better than I thought, fitting better than I expected, etc. I was surprised at how well this ensemble turned out. It makes me look pleasantly slimmer.

  3. Ah, Robert Herrick... I've been thinking about the Jenny Joseph poem lately (... 'I will wear purple and a red hat...'), the attitude sort of speaks to me... But I get your point about the last call. However, if we're talking about the last call, hold the roses, I'll have a double whisky...

  4. Oh wow! Those are awesome trousers. Also love the poem. Amazing how words can touch us centuries after they were written.

    Leave a lasting mark.

    I too am trying to figure out what it means to live. It is a daily battle, but I'm slowly getting there I think.

  16. This is a rely gorgeous outfit. The color/pattern mix is SO beautiful!!

    It sounds like you're weary of leading a compartmentalized life. I hope I'm not being presumptuous in assuming that you do this...? One of life's greatest joys is being accepted as our authentic selves. I hope that's happening for more and more each day Ally.
