My Christmas Outfit

Now that the holiday season has officially begun, it's not too early to put together a Christmas outfit. Something to wear to holiday parties and chats over tea at girlfriends' houses.

I found this pretty dress at a thrift-store, in brand-new condition, for $8. I added a $2 string of gold garland as a quasi-necklace to bring holiday color into the ensemble.

The centerpiece is a splurge -- as a Christmas present to myself, I bought a new pair of shoes. Retail! Well, discounted actually but from a real store, not thrifted. Nobody has ever worn these puppies before. I saw them while shopping for gifts in Nordstrom Rack. Nordstrom is the only major retailer I know which carries large ladies' shoes. They go up to size 13. (I'm a 12.) The shoes are from Jessica Simpson and their platform heels make me seven feet tall.

Wearing this outfit makes me smile. Do you have a holiday outfit yet?

  7. You are rocking those shoes! I like that they're sparkly, yet the shade is almost a nude on you (well, at least according to the color on my screen) - so flattering. Your whimsical necklace is also a winner.

  8. I can feel that scratchy tinsel around my neck! Although it looks so cute.
Your hair also has a golden gleam on top. Those shoes break my toes just looking at them! But they are very festive. I hope you get to wear this outfit for real.
I am in the middle of hand sewing a silver and black loose caftan style dress. Hopefully it will be cool enough for our sweaty Christmas. Xo Jazzy Jack

    1. The garland is, in fact, scratchy. And my toes do, in fact, feel pinched. But there's no length to which I wouldn't go for women's fashion!

  9. Gorgeous shoes! A great gift to yourself. And that dress is excellent on you.

Usually I dress very conservatively but you've been helping me think about what I'd wear if I wasn't editing my choices so much. So I'm going to think about your question at length and see what surprises come to the surface!

    1. Experiment! Try new things. If you like a look, adopt it; if you don't, don't repeat it. No harm in trying.

    1. I agree about the dress. And it's one of very few clothes I have that actually fits me right. Perfect size, with stretch in all the right places.

  17. I'm jealous for three reasons: one I can't fit my feet into Jessica Simpson shoes, two those amazing legs you have, and three you found a great pair of shoes on sale. Good job. I also love the dress.

  20. What a cracking pair of pins in that festive red dress! What a great find the dress is. You're so brave with those heels. I wouldn't be able to stand in them! As to holiday outfits I have a Christmas jumper at the ready for Christmas day! Does that count????

  22. PERFECTLY festive. You make that dress look smashing! I'm trying to decide what to wear to my workplace holiday party, which I help plan. The last few years we've allowed the treat of jeans so I'll probably actually be dressed down instead of up, but I might wear a fancy top. (Or I might wear my ginormous thrifted cat sweater...)

The shoes, whilst too high for me, are so preetty! My feet are only one size smaller than you- I think I am a US 11!!!!x

I have no plans for Christmas, even less of an outfit.

  27. Such a pretty dress!!!! I own those shoes and absolutely adore JS!! However, the shoes only make me a hair over 5ft tall. LOL!!

  28. Fabulous Christmas outfit, Ally! Red + gold are so dazzling together. I love your shoes and have a fairly similar pair myself, which I wore for my Xmas Day outfit last year. Chances are, they'll resurface during this holiday season, too. How can they not when they suit this shimmeringly lovely time of the year so well. :)

    Have a great weekend!
