In Requiem

It's gone. My beloved Yamaha motorcycle is gone.

I woke up this morning, looked out the kitchen window into my backyard and... this is what I saw. Or, more accurately, what I didn't see. No motorcycle. My baby was gone.

I reported the theft to the police. A detective told me there's a group of kids in the area who are stealing motorcycles for joy-rides. He suspects it was them because my bike is old and not worth a lot of money. A professional thief wouldn't have bothered with it.

I'm in shock. I can't believe my baby is gone. I still expect to be able to take it for rides.

I bought this motorcycle twelve years ago. It was the only bike I've ever bought new; all my others have been used and worn when I got them. This one shined like a bright penny. Every mile on it was put there by me.

The bike, a 2003 Yamaha FZ-1, was fast. Rocketship fast. I took it to the racetrack a few years ago and got it up to 140 mph. It was nimble and could lean into corners like a true racing machine. Those capabilities pushed me to improve my skills; the bike was always luring me into faster, more challenging riding. Honestly, the most exciting moments of my life happened while I was sitting in the saddle of this beast. As well as the scariest. Thank God the brakes on this machine were phenomenal.

It's gone. My baby is gone.

  16. I'm sorry that this happened to you! :(

I used to drive a convertible so I know something of the lure of the road with nothing between you and the wind.

  18. Theft is something that shakes you to your core. It's true how they say you feel violated by it. I'm sorry you have to go through this. And I hope it turns up quickly and in good shape.

  21. I am so, so sorry! Being robbed brings such a terrible feeling of violation. And grief. I'll send good vibes your way. And put in a word to St. Anthony.

  23. OHHHH this makes me so mad and sad. People who steal things have no care or consideration for the impact this has. Yeah, its not so much the thing ( the bike) itself.. the memories, the years of care you put into it. Oh man, I am sad to hear this news. I say you'll get it back. Put good vibes out and it'll come back.. it has to... oh this makes me shake my head!!

  24. Oh, that sucks. I've had a few things stolen in my day and I always try to think that the person who took it must have needed it more than I did, but that's more for myself than anything. Best of luck recovering it, and whatever happens, I'm glad you had twelve good years with that bike.

  25. I'm a UK biker who has been thru exactly the same experience, losing treasured bikes and other hard earned possessions to thieving scum. Apart from the damn inconvenience, it is downright upsetting. I hope the bike is recovered and you can continue to enjoy her.

  26. Oh Ally, I'm really and truly sorry for your loss. I've never had a vehicle stolen, but my house was burgled when I was 18 years old and living on my own at the time (thankfully I was at work when it happened). It's such a powerless, crushing feeling to have someone invade your world and take from you in ways like this. I know it's a long shot, but maybe, just maybe, the police will be able to recover your beloved bike. I will keep my fingers uber tightly crossed for you.
