Finally!

I love wearing nice clothes.  Even more, I love photographing and sharing them with you.  This communal act brings me deep joy.

It's been too long since I did an outfit post.  The reason is simple -- they're hard for me to create and my life has competing demands, mostly from work.  Unlike you, I can't simply snap a picture of myself at the end of a day.  I have to spend a full hour transforming myself into something credibly female and another hour assembling and photographing an outfit.  It's a big job for which I don't always have the time or strength.  But I love it.  I really do.

This outfit is simple but meaningful.  I acquired the pretty striped shirt from another blogger and the red heels were a present to myself for a special occasion (Kat's book-cover).  Wearing clothes from other bloggers touches my heart.

Any thoughts?

  1. I'm actually most in love with the pants! Especially since you have such nice legs to pull them off. I feel part of your pain surrounding outfit posts and how difficult it is to create them. It's nearly impossible on the days I go to work, and on the other days I'm busy catching up on homework. I'm looking forward to the consistency my slightly less busy schedule will bring very soon.

    1. It's hard to see in the photos but the pants have a light grey snakeskin pattern which is cute.

  5. I love the striped top on you! And you look so great in heels.

However, I'm sorry, I have to draw the line: don't wear leggings as pants! They aren't pants! They're meant to be a layering piece underneath other items. Your crotch area should be covered.

Maybe this shows my age, or maybe I am out of touch, but tights-as-pants never works, in my opinion. And please understand, Ally, I don't want to sound mean or discouraging, but I know you want to know how we really feel about your outfits so that you can learn. You have fantastic legs, but I only want to see them from the mid-thigh (at the very highest) down. :)

    1. I have to agree with Sheila on this one. And I am 'young'. The top & the shoes are *really* cute. But the leggings as pants are pushing it a little... Typically the 'rule' is tight on bottom looser on top (or the other way around). Sometimes you can pull of tight in both places but I do not think these leggings are doing you any favors in this circumstance.

  6. I'm obsessed with those shoes. I still can't believe how perfect they are. Pointy toe, cherry red pumps. Gifted items from other bloggers definitely make wearing them all that much more exciting.

I can understand why you space out your "OOTD" photos. I've got my morning routine down to an hour (but that includes shower and all), and if I didn't have someone taking my photos I wouldn't be a daily poster.

My "New Life" posts actually take about an hour or more to write, where my daily photos take a lot less, but I love sharing the little ones. I think blogging about the things you care about allows your readers to enjoy those things too.

  7. Shelia put it well.

Glad to see the heels again. I feel terrible that I haven't made any progress on the novel/book cover and was actually meaning to email you about it, although I wasn't quite sure what I would say. I still intend to write The Red Rider, but I'm at the point where I'm fed up with self-publishing. If I were to be published traditionally, I would have no control over the cover. I feel terrible for not having thought things through before asking you to model for a cover I probably won't be able to use, so if you'd like compensation for the shoes or anything else, let me know.

    1. Kat, don't be silly. Doing this was a thrill for me regardless of how your book turns out.

  10. Lovely ensemble! Oh man, I am the same way! I need to invest in a decent tri-pod (still have not done that), because the only time I look nice is before work. After work I rush to the gym and nobody wants to see sweaty pics, ugh.

Wearing other blogger's clothes is fun. I miss when Lauren lived by me and we couls just swap. It is great finding people who like the same things as you and you can swap clothes and items back and forth. :)

    1. I'm so glad you caught that, Beth. I remember my mother's girlfriends dressing just like this in the 1960's and I always thought that was so attractive and feminine.

  13. The shirt is awesome, the color combo is awesome, the shoes are awesome, and the snakeskin pattern is awesome, but I have to reiterate what another commenter said above: These are leggings, and leggings are not pants, so you must wear something in addition to cover your bottom! I think a knee-length swishy red skirt would look great.

  14. What a great pair of red heels -
I am not that in love with the pants I guess mostly because I don't wear leggings as pants I always try to cover my butt :)

  15. Those shoes are absolutely stunning and pair perfectly with the shirt! People either have a love-hate relationship with pants, to me, they're oh so comfy but look best worn with a tunic or at least covering part of the bum- more elongating. I haven't had much time for blogging or outfit photos recently either :(

  16. I like something about the outfit I couldn't pin down... but I think it's the retro look that someone else commented on!

  17. I agree about the leggings, they can look positively indecent! But, I have seen plenty of people attempt that look far less successfully than you. I've said before you have great legs and if I may, I'll add you have a great bum ;) You just need to think of a different way of showing it off.

  18. I swear I don't have a foot fetish or anything (lol) but your feet look really lovely in those beautiful heels. I can't keep my eyes off them! :) Those might be the most fabulous red heels EVER.

As for the rest of the outfit: divine. Your legs look fantastic.
