$500 Pants

Have you ever seen $500 pants?  Well, mine just arrived.  Pics below.

Actually, they are riding gear that I bought to wear to the racetrack next month.  The track requires full leathers (neck to ankle).  You can buy either a one-piece suit or, like I did, a jacket and separate pants.  The pants have a zipper inside the waist that connects to a zipper in the waist of my jacket, so the two pieces zip together into a single unit.  That's important if you're sliding on pavement at 80 mph.

These may not look very fashionable, but they perform a vital task.  Both my jacket and pants are by Vanson Leathers, the highest quality manufacturer in the country.  I don't stint on safety.

What's the most expensive piece of clothing you've ever bought?

  1. The most expensive thing I've purchased in recent memory was a $50 dress that's got to be the most wonderful dress on the planet. It's rainbow-sequined, and I can't wait to wear it someday. (I would have said my prom dress from high school, but a family member purchased it for me!) I shop super, super cheaply.

  2. ;o; I love them! But I think leather is my favorite textile. I once thrifted a pair of leather pants from Goodwill. They were super skinny (before skinny jeans were so commonplace) with zipper and omg they made me feel like a superstar. Unfortunately they got waylaid somewhere between that space where matching socks disappear to and where car keys always turn up. At the time they were my most expensive purchase by myself ($20). I still haven't come across another real. leather. black. pants again that fit me as well as those did.

Now my most expensive purchase is my white cotton All Saints dress ($150) or my brand spanking new Miz Mooz boots ($200). I do spend a lot on my shoes, but I spend verrrry little on my individual clothing pieces (that aren't from All Saints). Even then, I try to buy via ebay or clearance deep discount. I don't think I've ever outright bought anything new from there. Oh! And the All Saints dress? Cost more than my ballgown wedding dress. What can I say? I'm a bargain hunter.

  3. I spent just over $200 on an authentic corset. I've always wanted one, and I finally decided to get it. Sadly, it doesn't sit very well underneath clothing, so it has to be outer wear. Guess I'll have to actually work out to get rid of the extra 20 or so pounds I've gained in the last two years or so instead of hiding it :)

  4. Hurray for new clothes! : ) I like your "boy pose." I've bought in my time two $200 dresses, one of them five years ago and the other this past Christmas. Have also bought one or two $150 dresses in recent years. And I'm completely unrepentant. I don't shop much or often, and I'd rather buy exactly what I want when I do (and skimp on everything else/wait to be given presents)!

  5. They look so awesome!
    Great detail

It's weird to think what my most expensive item is because I barely buy anything expensive, does $75 boots count? :)

  6. Sliding on the pavement at 80 mph sounds horrific. I think I'll continue to stay here on the couch. (You look great, by the way.)

I don't spend a lot of money on my clothes. I think I have a dress that was $80. Chris buys me a lot of jewelry, so I have some expensive pieces, but I didn't buy them myself.

  7. I know a blogger who regularly wears a pair of motorcycle leathers as an outfit! They look to be of high quality and you look great in the two pieces together. My most expensive item would be my Frye boots.

  8. Safety is hugely important!!

I suppose the most expensive clothing item I ever bought was my wedding dress - $450. It was on sale at the time at least!

I also don't skimp on running shoes - they can be $150-$200 but I don't care, they need to be good quality to keep my feet safe while running!

  9. After knowing a man who ended up in traction for a couple months after a motorcycle accident, I think $500 pants sounds completely reasonable. I've got a dress that cost me about $90, but it does not have the potential to save my life so I figure you definitely got the better deal.

  10. If it's meant to keep you safe, its worth every single penny :)
My most expensive item... a bag in Spain for about 600 USD

  11. Looking good!!! Like you, my most expensive clothing is my riding gear. Leather & armour ain't cheap but I don't want to risk road burn.

  12. Very cool. I want a set, too! Though I'll stick with my less-expensive textiles for now. You really look bad-ass in that outfit in a good way!
