We're renovating upstairs. Emptying one of the rooms, I discovered an old photograph. I thought I had all my old pictures but this one is new to me.
It depicts my Oscar Wilde phase. Yes, that's a pocket-watch on a chain in my vest. And extravagantly-wide collars popular during the Seventies. Finally, dig the hair!
Such gorgeous hair, Ally. :D I'll bet you turned heads.
ReplyDeleteI think I understand what you mean about old photographs. Young yet, but I noticed in late 20s that photos long enough ago have a sharp sweetness/sadness, looking into a window of a time (and often, people) that are now gone.
Exactly. Life changes and snapshots of the past emphasize that. When people you know have died and you later see them in old photos, the reaction is visceral.
DeleteI love finding old photographs. I thought there weren't any of me from the early 1980s, for instance, but then I went on Facebook and met a lot of my old pals, who did have some of me with wild punk/goth hair ...
ReplyDeleteThat photo of 1970s you is gorgeous, Ally. Your hair was absolutely fabulous, in fact it still is! xxx
Thanks! If you want to find more old pictures of yourself, look in storage. :)
DeleteThat's you!?!?!??!?!?! I wouldn't have known! Your hair is luscious! It would look amazing teamed with a silk full length gown in Chartreuse and a diamond necklace! Your curls are envy-inducing!
ReplyDeleteYup! I like your idea!
DeleteOh my gosh you look AMAZING! It's fun to look back at old pics.
ReplyDeleteWill you believe me if I told you that the first thought that crossed my mind when I saw this photograph (before I read the text) was- Oscar Wilde. It isn't just the hairstyle and the outfit, it's more than that, a certain upper class British sensibility I would have hard time describing with words. Such a precious photograph and look! Your dark curls looking so fabulous in that shot. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI believe you! There's reasons why it occurred to both of us. Thanks for the nice words.
DeleteYour hair is gorgeous - all the more reason to grow it out again, if you can get those beautiful waves, Ally!
ReplyDeleteThe waves are natural and here!
DeleteOh, how I adore this wonderful photo of you, Ally - and completely concur that there is a distinctly Oscar Wilde-esque quality to your look at the time. He was a man of taste, wit, wisdom, and joie de vivre - just as you, my friend.

You look very snazzy. Your love of fashion shows, as well as your attention to detail (the watch!). I also love dressing "thematically" sometimes, with a character or inspiration in mind.
ReplyDeleteI still like to paw through my old photo box annually.
I regret my tween/teen years didn't have many photographs and in my teens, the rise of digital photography happened and my low income home meant very few pics in those years.
I would LOVE to see your old pictures, whichever ones you have. If you ever collect them, send me copies!
DeleteOscar Wilde is absolutely right! You look sharp here, Ally! I happen to think the pocketwatch is pretty cool. :)

Thanks, Ashley.
DeleteWhat a fantastic archival photograph! Oh goodness, I think my mum still has photographs from my 'punk' phase! Let's hope those never resurface, haha. Although, I thought I was quite stylish then.

I'm going to bribe your mum for a look at those photos!
DeleteYou look rather like a young Russell Crowe in that flashback photo!
ReplyDeleteOkay!
