When you shoot normal photographs you take color for granted. When you shoot black-and-white, you focus on shapes and shadows -- things obscured by the presence of color. Interestingly when you return to color photography, you suddenly see how color enhances your images.
After shooting black-and-white film for a while I just returned to color. I'm exploring vibrant hues and will continue in this direction for a bit. What do you think?
Yes, this is true! You do notice the colours more! I like that first photo of the dresses- so vibrant!
ReplyDeleteI love the vibrant colour in these, Ally! what camera are you using here?
ReplyDeleteMy favourite is the picture with the leaf, as the blue of the paint contrasts with the orangey shade of the leaf. Lovely.
These were all taken with my trusted, cheap Holga. I agree about the leaf picture and for the very same reason.
DeleteLove the transition. You've definitely developed an eye for composition and capture, color only enhances your skills! Bravo!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Megan. I'm working at it!
DeleteI tend to gravitate to color, so I am loving these!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteI'm loving the vibrant colours your Holga camera catches. Your photos show that you don't need expensive equipment, as long as you've got the "eye", which you certainly do in abundance! xxx
ReplyDeleteThanks! A $10 camera and a Million Dollar mind. :)
DeleteThat's such a simple yet profound way of looking at black and white vs. color photography - I tell you, you have a gift! I appreciate black and white, but you know I'm all about color...the more colorful the better! Can't wait to see more!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteOh I agree. It's kind of like being in a fog - then noticing all the brilliant hues you've missed. Or coming out of winter and stepping into spring. I just want to run my hands across those beautiful dresses. And I really love that sculpture and the ethereal glow the sun created in the background. Just lovely.
ReplyDeleteExactly! Thanks.
DeleteHello dear Ally!
ReplyDeleteYour comment in my blog brought a smile to my lips :)
I am slowly but surely trying to get back on the blogging wagon and the habit of posting.
Here it's been crazy, it still is -
I really like the baby Yoda pic.
I miss you, Lorena!
DeleteTerrific shots, Ally. Colour gets my vote all the way! Not only is it a visual godsend in the middle of winter, but who can't use an extra jolt or two of vibrancy and the sense of cheer that colour can often convey as we head into the second year of the pandemic?

We tend to overlook the major role color plays in life. Only when you take it away do you realize that.
Deletegorgeous vibrant colours<3
