The Point Of It All

In his best work, philosopher Albert Camus asserts "that the meaning of life is the most urgent of questions." I concur.

The search for meaning underpins our choices on everything.

  1. What if it means nothing at all? How do we reconcile our lives? Can we live in the moment, from happiness to happiness?

These are amazing pictures, Ally. The last one takes my breath away - it's like a dream.

    1. Thanks on the photos. I agree about the last one.

Camus believed there is no meaning to life and faced the question of life in view of that. It's what he refers to as the "absurd." He, like me, chose to live nonetheless. For Camus, this issue was prominent because of his experience suffering through WWII and watching many die senselessly. I believe that even if there is no external or absolute meaning, we can create our own reasons for living. Like love, affection and support of fellow human-animals.

    2. Sometimes I think about what if life means nothing at all. Which bothers me when I am SO STRESSED about my job. Why am I even stressed if it means nothing?

    3. As someone who suffers stress daily, I grasp your point. Why do we worry? I believe it's innate animal behavior, beyond our conscious control. Thanks for contributing to the discussion.

  2. I think it's up to us to find the purpose in our own lives, whether it's big or small. I don't think there is any grand design, but I became happier when I started going with the flow more and enjoyed what came my way, rather than trying to force some ideal or impossible goal.

Living a good life can be a perfectly fine meaning.

    1. Ha! Love the last line. And yes, supplying your own answer to the question is a valid response. I do that.

  4. Ally, these images are magnificent works of art. Each one has a multi-faceted quality, air of mystery, and deeply entrenched beauty not unlike that of life itself.

  5. Beautiful photographs. I love Camus' honesty and vulnerability in his writing. I always appreciate those who admit they don't have the answers- that's the only way to start asking the right questions.
