Niksen

At the cool kids meeting last night we came up with a new word. We needed to replace "hygge" which is so 2018. (Hygge means "comfort at home.")

The new word is "niksen." A Dutch concept, it lauds the pleasure and rewards of doing nothing. Absolutely nothing. When we're idle, our bodies restore themselves and our brains find peace.

Now you know what us hipsters will be touting this year.

  1. Obviously I am not a cool kid as I was not at the meeting (perhaps I missed the memo? ;-P). I am craving niksen...fortunately we have a long weekend coming!

  2. As a native Dutch (Flemish) speaker, I applaud your choice of "niksen" as the latest in hipster cool! So much better than the over-hyped "hygge"! But although I'd love to indulge in a bit of "niksen", I am notoriously bad at it. xxx

  7. Hygge, niksen?? I may not have been a cool kid, but I am 100% on making both of them 2019 goals.
