Back To The Sixties

Thrifting is like gold-prospecting. You sift through racks of dross with the hope of discovering a fashion gold-nugget. Occasionally you do and that inspires us to return.

This week I found a beautiful item at Rosie's Vintage -- a matching dress and scarf from the Sixties. Authentic vintage clothing with its original price-tag still attached. The dress has never been worn. Even better, it's in my size which is rare for old pieces.

I love the Sixties and remember life then. This dress and scarf capture mid-Sixties style. Feminine with a hint of sartorial boldness that increased during the decade. I've never worn this particular style of dress nor this color, but life is an adventure so I'm diving in.

What do you think?

  1. Oh, I LOVE the colour of it! What a fabulous greeny-yellow! You look awesome in this "skater dress" style, Ally. I would like to see the scarf tied up higher at the neck, and the ends draping down to the side (over one boob, tee hee). Then a little hip belt (a gold chain one??) to add a little something to the bottom...and you're kicking it!

What a great find to discover a piece of dead-stock! It would look great in cooler months with black knee-high boots too.

    1. Thanks, Sheila. Your suggestions make sense to me. I was unsure how to wear the scarf. I like the idea of a hip-belt; I have a few from that era.

  2. This is adorable! I love the fit of clothes from the 60s, unbelievably elegant and curve-hugging and sexy. Suits you beautiful, Ally...and can I say, seeing your name pop up in the Peaceful Posse thread, made my heart skip :) Love to have you!

  4. I love thrifting too! You find lots of unique items which is just a bit mysterious because you know there's a story behind the piece which you'll never know. :) Anyway, I think the dress looks great on you! I'm not really a big fan of bold colors but I do love that the dress hugs your body shape. It's flattering! :)

By the way, in reply to your comment on my blog:
Thank you! :) I have friends who seem uninterested with chokers. I guess, it's all about one's taste and style! I actually usually say, "my choker is choking me. hahaha!" and we just laugh it off. lol. Thanks again! :"D

  10. Oh that is an awesome dress and it looks like it could be from today actually. It looks great on you. And the original price tag! Wow. Hold on to that.

hank you so much for trying to hard to watch my video. Yes it is a problem with Chrome and Fire Fox. Though works fine in Safari. I am working with their tech support on this. I think b/c it is making it an MP4/QuickTime file, and both Safari and QT are Apple products which why it works on Safari while Chrome and FF are not. I rescheduled for next week and will update the post with the tech information.

  16. I love that color. As a usually - red - head I love citrine green, and your classic 60 opaque tights pairing is spot on perfect.
