Pink Tulle Dreams

I recently splurged and bought a pink tulle skirt. People shook their heads and asked "How can you wear that?" What they meant was, "How can a woman as old as you wear such a juvenile item?"

Well... my philosophy is GO FOR IT. Double down on flouting convention. I took this youthful piece and added an equally youthful sailor top. Maybe the outfit makes me look foolish but I'm having fun. And that's the most I ask of fashion.

Would you wear either of these pieces?

  1. I've wanted a tulle skirt forever...
And yes I would wear both pieces, just separately.
The top I'd wear with white ankle length jeans and the skirt, maybe with a black turtleneck sweater.

  4. The top isn't really my style (unless it was more fitted, like a pin-up kind of styling), but I LOVE the skirt! I would wear that every day! I'd wear it with a fitted top (like Lorena) or even a little cropped top. A business-y jacket would also look great.

Screw what people think! Wear what makes you happy. :)

  5. Yay for doing - and wearing - what gives you joy. I don't think a tulle skirt is quite my style, but I've always wanted to try one! I'd pair mine with a great graphic tee.

  6. HELL YES! I'd wear either of those two pieces. Even together, as you did here. I don't think wearing tulle will ever go out of style, IMO. I don't care how young or old people are, tulle will always look lovely and cute.

  9. I also thought of Carrie Bradshaw and agree that we are entitled to squeeze as much fun from fashion as our passion for it can sustain.

  10. I love that these two items made you happy, and that's all that matters. I would wear the top with rolled up skinny jeans and cute sandals. The TULLE SKIRT {heart eyes} I would pair with a denim jacket or a chambray top. :)

  11. YES! And I love your attitude! Wear what makes you happy! I have been wanting a pink tulle skirt for a while...I've actually noticed a lot of women in Tokyo have pink tulle skirts similar to yours.

  14. I'd totally wear both of these items (I had a pink tulle skirt until the elastic went in the waist!) although I'd probably not pair them together-I'd probably wear white or black with them!

  15. Beautiful skirt...and if you love it, wear it! You know I'm a huge supporter of tulle. I just picked up a pink tulle skirt last winter and I wear it loud and proud! I think as long as you ground it with pieces that aren't super girly it works regardless of age.

  16. Ok, you should double down as a daily fashion rule! This outfit is my favorite so far! I love tulle, and I also wear it - I am around your age- and I love it. I adore the sailor top with it, the almost varstiy look, it is a great combo. But the best is the smile, I can tell you mean it!

ps. I also love tulle for fall with tights, boots, and maybe this year a blazer with brass buttons. On one of Suzanne's brooches!

  18. Hear, hear! If something brings your heart joy (and isn't hurting anyone else), I say go for it - big time! That's long been my approach to dressing and I find that the more I embrace, the happier + contented my life is.

Your skirt is a frothy, gorgeous piece and one that I think will get a lot of wear as time goes on (wouldn't it just rock as part of a New Year's ensemble?).
