Entering A Dream

Have you ever had an outfit transport you into a dream?

This $7.99 gown from a thrift-store carried me into a lovely dream. Its unusual color shimmers with sheen. Its feminine flourishes dance happily in the wind.

The gown is wonderful, isn't it?

  1. Is this a two-piece outfit or a dress? The skirt fits you better than the top. However! Holy smokes, what a gorgeous piece! I love the SHINY texture and the iridescent blue/purple! A dream indeed! You look lovely, Ally (also, good call on the shoes!).

    1. It's a two-piece and, yes, it's too tight. Way too tight. The gown is size 10 and I'm 16. I could never wear it in real life but didn't want to pass up the opportunity to play with it here. Some compromise is necessary for me.

  2. Funky.. its like a dress version of the mermaid outfit all shimmery. It looks fun and I would wear that skirt on its own with other tops as well. I agree with Sheila, the skirt fits you perfectly!! Looking fun as always :)

    1. In person, it looks purple; here it looks blue. It's somewhere between purple and blue, depending on what it's seen next to.

  7. I do love the colour, skirt and the necklace. I wish the top fit a bit better. I can see how this dress could transport you to far away lands though : )

  8. My stage work has been limited, but once upon a time we fitted a size xx into a size x bodice by opening the side seams and entirely replacing the back panel with a velvet as close a match to the front satin we could manage. (These sopranos gotta breathe!) Having spent so little on such a grand gown, one might poke the top in a bag and hie thee to a fabric shop, or find an alterations lady and let her do the hieing. For that matter, Ally, try dreaming about what you could have if you learned to sew! Like Vix!

    1. I did attempt some battlefield alteration on this, just to enable my large chest to fit into it.

  11. Wow, this is seriously a princess dress. My mom had an old bridesmaid dress from the 80s that I used to play dress up in when I was little. It was this color and I LOVED it!

  16. It is indeed a beautiful two piece gown. Love the flow of the skirt. And (very smart) it shows of your beautiful shoulders again. Good look on you. Beth's advice how to alter the size to fit sounds really smart.

  17. This is straight out of a beautiful dream. The way the light hits it...gorgeous. So is the shape. Reminds me of a Milani eyeshadow I have too.

When I show it to kiddo, she is gonna FLIP.
