Like everyone else, I know I should exercise but I don't as often as I should. It's hard to muster enthusiasm when you're tired or blue. My bright idea is a way to spark that enthusiasm and be physically active more often.
The idea is to pair exercising with my favorite, most intensely-felt desire: to wear women's clothing. If I had and could wear cute exercise-clothes, I'd work out in a flash!
This notion came to me today watching a local news segment on a local gym where the owner (my age) wore pretty active-wear. Seeing her move around in it lit kindling in my brain: why can't I do that? Putting on adorable pieces would, itself, make me want to move and move and move.
So... here's the second-brightest idea I had today -- to ask you for suggestions. What active-wear/athleisure/exercise-clothes do you recommend? What do you wear? Which are good brands? Do thrift-shops carry these?
Please toss in your thoughts!

My local second hand shop does carry active wear ! I am pretty sure yours does too. Here they have some nice things, fun colored workout pants are my fave.ReplyDelete
I think that is a fantastic idea! I do think that thrift shops carry exercise clothing. I haven't been in a gym in ages because of my back and health so I don't know what kinds are even out there to suggest to you. My mom did snag me a great pair of leggings/yoga pants (they could almost double as workout wear) from Costco not too long ago. They are stretchy and comfy and seem like they would be durable for a workout. Maybe check there? Hopefully someone can offer some tips on finding a good brand for you!ReplyDelete
Sounds good, Kimberly. Thanks.Delete
Fantastic idea! I know my consignment shops have a bunch of thrifted athletic wear, of which one of the more fun brands is Lululemon. I like some of the active wear from Old Navy and Target too though and it's usually cheaper. :)ReplyDelete
Good suggestions, pal.Delete
You can certainly pick these up in thrift stores. There are loads where I shop. My main concern would of course be finding some that fit your torso. I'll keep my eyes open when I'm thrifting for you.ReplyDelete
You're right about sizing. Thanks for the tip.Delete
Even though y doctor keep asking me to join a gym, I've been refusing to admit I need to exercise more. So no exercise clothes to suggest since I don't have any. :-(ReplyDelete
Almost everyone feels the same way. Thanks for sharing.Delete
I'm a terrible one to ask. I don't really do any exercise except my cycle to and from the train stations on the way to work!ReplyDelete
Riding your bike is good exercise. And I like to talk to you whether you know something or not!Delete
Lululemon is a good quality brand - there is often a rack specifically of that brand (My Sister's Closet that we went to often has one). What a great idea, Ally! Workout wear can be an awesome way to channel your inner Olivia Newton-John!ReplyDelete
Okay, so I'll hop on a plane and go back to Victoria to shop at My Sister's Closet. :)Delete
My local thrift carries athletic wear. My favorite brand is Calvin Klein performance but danskin has some nice stuff too.ReplyDelete
Exercise is hard to stay motivated for. Best things - a gym buddy and a cute outfit. Doesn't have to be $$$ lulu lemon or anything crazy. And you don't have to go to actual gym. But those two things helped keep me accountable (when I was healthy enough to work out)
You don't say what workout you are thinking of doing. Maybe you haven't thought that far!ReplyDelete
I like Yoga With Adriene free yoga videos on youtube. After doing them for three years now, it has changed my body considerably. And I can manage it when not feeling well.
I just use tank tops and leggings...but cute ones! :-D
