New and Different

Today was an odd day. I woke up stressed about work which is my normal state. But as the day unfolded, my anxiety eased and unexpected energy percolated inside me. I felt desire to have fun, to do something I enjoy. So, without planning, I put together an outfit and did a photo-shoot.

For my whole life, I've been attracted to clothes I couldn't wear. One of the items I craved early on is linen pants with flat front and rear-zipper. The absence of a front zipper is significant as a gender-marker. The absence of elasticity is a sign of devotion to the craft of fashion. Anyone can fit into stretchy leggings; pants that don't stretch must be carefully chosen.

I found a pair of pants at a thrift-store. They're light green. I present them here with a sparkly top and glittery shoes. To me, the star of the outfit are the pants since they are what I care about.

These pictures don't look normal because I played with different lighting. I trying to expand my visual repertoire by exploring new photographic techniques.

Any thoughts?

  1. Those retro pants are cool. Such a 60's-70's vibe.

Playing is fun. More adults need to do it and understand that playing with fashion is just as fun when you're an adult as when you were a kid.

  6. I do love the outfit and you look at home in it. But I'll admit I'm an avid stiletto wearer and I would suggest 4 to 5 inch heels with all outfits. BTW - I just posted a response to an old blog of yours about shoe dangling. Have a great day!

  7. You look so happy in this outfit sweet Ally ... I do love those pants and the shoes are gorgeous.

I am still dying to see you with a short "flicky" hairstyle ... it was one of my FAVOURITE Halle Berry styles. I will find a picture and mail it to you.

    1. I don't know if I should be happy or sad but I simply don't have any hips, so some women's clothes fit me and some don't.

  13. I love those pants (never really thought about the whole "absence of zipper" gender stuff... interesting! I guess it's the same with the buttons on opposites for men/women, right?). I love the pants on you, but really those shoes are the star of the outfit :) So many sparkles!!!

    1. The "gender stuff" has always been important to me, primarily because it marked the line I was instructed not to cross. Things only girls can do (like wear pants with rear- or side-zippers) were beyond my reach. Which only makes me want them all the more.

The button-situation actually has a history behind it.

  15. Such a non stretchy, well fitted pair of trousers are hard to find. You did a great job and they are such a nice colour too. Matched perfectly with those heel and top. This look is very sophisticated.
As for the photography I cannot advice you. Still learning a lot myself.
