Where'd Everyone Go??

Where'd everyone go??

Over the Summer, I thought my Bloglovin reader was broken.  There were so few posts by my favorite bloggers.  I went to their blogs to check up on them and noticed many had been silent for weeks.  I started to worry about the bloggers.  Then I realized they were choosing not to blog.

Why is that?  Is it the season?  Are people vacationing?

Or is it boredom?  As someone who's blogged long-term (four years), I've seen many blogs come and go.  Most seem to last two years before petering out and quietly disappearing.

Have you noticed a diminution in blogging lately?  Why do you think that happens?

  1. I can answer that question for myself - life! Life ends up getting busy and you have to prioritize. When blogging becomes a chore and it's not fun anymore that's why people stop. Also, I find that during the summer I would much rather be outside than stuck in front of the computer! Also, Instagram is so quick and easy I have noticed a lot of my favorite blogs have gone that route.

  2. I can answer for myself too, I take breaks but I come back. Sometimes I feel I'm stressing myself out with blogging (while it should be relaxing) or being too hard on myself (bad post, no visitors, ugly pics, FAIL WHALE) and that's when I disappear to get my motivation back.
I know some of my friends did quit blogging coz they are very busy with other stuff, tho. And as Style Journey pointed on, some start using snappier medias like Instagram, Twitter, Tumblr..

  3. I think that a lot of bloggers stop blogging during the summer because readers stop reading during the summer. Style Journey is right; no one, bloggers or readers, want to be stuck in front of a computer during the nice weather.

I think you'll see some bloggers come back soon.

  5. I think some of the reasons are that ... life gets in the way, bloggers think their posts need to be perfect, don't post because their photos are not perfect ... I decided that my blog was going to be my journal and that works just perfectly so I don't need it to be perfect it just needs to be good enough for me.

Again you come up with something that makes us think!!!! You are one special human being!

  6. I am relatively new to blogging (writing one, not reading them), but I work from home and when the were out for the summer it just became impossible for me to keep up. With school having just started I feel like I will be able to blog again!

  7. Echoing everyone! I know I've reduced my posting as I get back to balancing my schedule. It's meant reading and commenting less than usual, posting about 3-4 times a week instead of 6-7.

I think the lifespan of many blogs tend to be about 1-2 years unless their blog focuses more than on style. Many discover during the blogging process where they want their style to go and if they don't work out personal ties and friendships to the blogging world, it's easy enough to leave it.

I still keep in touch with a few people like Lara mentioned through Twitter or FB.

    1. Exactly right on the lifespan of the average blog.

  8. I've just had a crazy busy summer, and, frankly, summer is far from my favourite season when it comes to clothes. Living where I do, I feel like my personal style comes into its own in autumn and winter!

  9. As one of those regular posters (like you!) it's always been odd to me that people take the summer off from blogging. I never have - my summers are the same as the rest of the year - but I always see blogs come and go. I do think the newer media is pulling some of the more casual fashionistas from actually blogging (maybe seeing that as too much work?). I always just remind myself that I blog for me, not for an audience.

  10. I agree. So many of my regular blogs have stopped posting. And I understand and appreciate that they have to do what is best for them. But like you, I start to worry that something horrible has happened when they say they are going on a family holiday and then never return! I guess I just wish there was a goodbye... But at the same time it's everyone's personal preference.

    1. Exactly -- I wish they'd say goodbye so I'd have closure. Otherwise I wonder and worry about them.

  11. I've been blogging for over three years now, and it gives structure to my life. At times it's been a lifeline. But it is a time commitment, and I understand how life can happen and it drops off the scene for some people.

Happy Fall! Maybe some bloggers will return.

  12. I have had a couple/few blogs that were new to me that I started following and was sooooo excited because I absolutely adored their style and wanted to get tips and ideas from them for the rest of my life! ha And then...so after I discover them...poof! they're no longer posting. On a couple their blog was just shut down and non-accessible w/ no explanation. And on a couple...they just vanished and stopped posting. I miss their outfits so much...and worry a little too. I wonder things like...did they have a sudden car crash and die?, did they have a critical illness?? If they just got bored or busy I really wish they could leave a little sentence or two to say something...and not just leave me worrying and missing them. :(

  13. I find it is cyclical. Every year and a half or so, people stop blogging. Some return after a hiatus, some don't. But so long as you and I are still around, we can still be a community, right!?!?!

  14. This summer I wasn't feeling 100% well, and all of my non-day-job pursuits were affected. Just lately, I had no internet at home for a while after lightning struck our ISP tower and now I have brutal deadlines! Aargh! For me it's a struggle to eke out the time and energy, not lack of love. Thanks, Ally!

    1. Okay. Thanks for the explanation. You were one of the bloggers I worried about, Amber. Your disappearance was unexplained and that concerned me.

  15. I did blog during the summer but there was a huge drop-off in my blogging when the school year started. I'm still navigating the transition from two years as a full-time grad student to full-time teacher (waking up at 5 a.m. continues to be a challenge. I will never be a morning person!) However, blogging makes me happy. It's a fun escape from work-related stress and motivates me to get a little more creative with my clothes, so I'm trying to post when I can. :)

  16. that makes me sad as well. and worried. I never ould understand why they can't drop a line like "Hi! I'm Mary I'm tired of blogging. Bye" But may be that's because they believe if they didn't write the good bye post they might come back?

During the summer I've posted less but that wasn't due to season or something. I just seam out of line everywhere

  17. Well I tend to post more during summer, that's your winter eh .. cause I'm doing more riding in summer. Like Lynn my blog is my journal so I only really write when there's something I want to write about .. some months that's more and some months it's less.

I may not always comment but I am always keeping up to date on what my blogging friends are doing, yes life gets in the way sometimes but I have to say I think I'll still be around for a bit longer :)

  18. I think a lot of bloggers get burnt out from blogging and decide they're going to take a short break. But many never actually come back from the break. It makes me sad when I blogger I love doesn't continue blogging, but I understand that it can be hard to make time between work/family obligations.

  19. Other obligations, sunshine, work hours, ill health, lack of something new to say, technology problems, other hobbies, or deep immersion in good books. Blogs are fun, but so are novels!

  20. Yeah Ally I noticed it, too. And i would wonder if everything is alright.

I blog for ME. If it looks like I may be off the blog grid for a few days I try to mention it in a post.

  21. I will always mention if I will be away because I can't stand abandoned blogs that just tail off. This summer I've been working 2 jobs and double shifts so I've not had much time or inspiration recently. But I'm always around, even if my blog does look a bit pitiful at the moment

  24. ohh I am so guilty. I am training so much that i havent had time to even care what I'm wearing let alone photograph outfits. That said, its always still in my mind that I wonder how my blogger friends are and my blog has given me access to knowing new great people that I always remember.
    I do miss you!!

  25. Here I am thinking I blog too much! :P I think people get busy at the end of summer, trying to fit in a bunch of things in those last few weeks of warmth!

  26. I'm dealing with a lot of personal stuff (the end of my marriage, my father's ongoing health struggles, depression) so blogging hasn't been a priority. I do miss it though. I'm hoping to get back at it soon.

  27. I think blogging is one of the first things to go, an indulgence that can be cut when lives get too busy or stressful. It's an easily dropped and resumed... hobby (if that's the right word?). I personally have fatigue and antisocial issues, and have to cut myself off from the world at times. I would recover faster if I didn't have to still go to work day-after-day when I need to recharge my introvert personality... and so sometimes it takes weeks or months for me personally to get back to a place where I feel like 'blogging'. I think creative people (of which you know many, being so inspiring and creative yourself) simply have more of a tendency to emotional ups and downs (and will be quiet for a time as they work through things). Such seems to be the case with a few of the blogs I follow.

  28. Yes! A few of my favorite bloggers have just dropped off the face of the planet recently! I get a little worried thinking that something bad has happened to them

  29. summer always gives me the least views. but i was very ill most of september, so i slowed down my posts a bit. i usually post 6-7 times a week!

  30. Hmmm i have not noticed less posts to be honest. My bloglovin reader however has issues and i cannot read most of the blogs i follow... luckily yours is not one of them.

  31. Another guilty party here. Not sure why I have lagged so. Not feeling inspired, I guess. During vacation, I'd intended to post, but we were so busy, I just never did. So now I'm playing catch-up. I haven't even been reading blogs regularly. I need to get back into my groove!

  32. I know that for me, I've been really focused on my career lately. Most weekends, I just want to chill out, read a book, and catch up on cooking and cleaning that didn't happen during the week. Lately, I just don't feel like blogging. I do want to get back into it, but I don't want to force it.
