How Does Your Garden Grow?

I like learning new things.  It's fun and helps us grow.  Pursuing a new hobby is a great way to spend time.

Among new activities I'm adding to my life is gardening.  I've never done it before and am just starting out.  Last year, a friend who loves to garden gave me bulbs which I planted in my backyard.  He says that in a few weeks, they'll sprout daffodil flowers!  I can't wait.

This is what's appeared so far.  The picture was taken today.  I'll let you know when there are pretty flowers to see!

Have you ever gardened?  If so, any advice?

  1. I am so happy you have started a garden. Since I live in the city I don't have any outdoor space and long to own a house and start a garden. Are you doing to grow herbs and veggies as well?

  2. I dream of a garden. Someday. Sigh.
For now, I have a tiny balcony that is crowded with plants in pots.
I have a few flowers and recently begun growing oregano, basil and such - but I am not advanced enough to offer advice- i do look forward to seeing your flowers.

  3. Gardening is something I want to get into once I have a house, but for now, I know nothing about it. The closest to growing something was when I put a sunflower seed from my then-hamster's food in a bowl with some bedding in a drawer. I took the bowl out a few months later and this creepy, vine-like thing was growing from it. Eeeeeeeeeggh.

  6. How awesome! I loved being able to go out in my in-laws garden and grab fresh squash and herbs. I'm such a pansy (lol puns) about sunlight, heat, and pollen to really dig in the dirt myself.

My best advice - remember to water, but don't overwater!

  8. Daffodils are my second favorite flower (after peonies). I've never gardened but I like having flowers and plants inside the house.

  10. My mother gardens, so I've been around them for a lot of my life. I've mostly got obvious advice. Don't buy plants that aren't in your zone, I'm in South Dakota, so my zone is four and less (I think). Sadly, a lot of the plants that I love are zone five or six :( Also always make sure you place plants in the proper places, if they only need partial sun, place them where they won't be in the sun all day ect. And according to my parents,(I don't eat vegetables) when planting veggies, get heirloom every time. They have much more flavor than hybrids.

  11. Good luck. :) It looks like you're off to a good start. I love learning new things too. I haven't gotten the gardening bug yet (har har) but I truly believe that when I get a house of my own, I will attempt it as well. (Gardening is almost impossible in my tiny apartment, lol).

I'm sure your daffodils are going to turn out just as wonderful as you are! :)

  12. I also wanted to tell you how sorry I am for being such a crappy friend lately. I've been so busy with work that I haven't had any time to check out my favorite blogs in the past month. So tonight I've been going through my 15 can't-miss blogs and catching up. Lol. Obviously you're one of them.

I hope you don't think I'm rude if I tell you here how much I enjoyed your previous posts. That food car one in particular had me cracking up. I kind of want to hotwire that cupcake truck. :D

And you in that gorgeous blue prom dress is so beyond stunning, I'm speechless. You look like a princess. I wish I had looked just an ounce that good at my prom ten years ago! That whole prom look was absolutely gorgeous.

Anyway, I hope you're having a great week!

    1. Thanks, buddy!

And don't worry about being absent while attending to real life -- we all do that at times. Australian aborigines go on "walkabout", which is what I compare it to.

  13. I hope you enjoy every minute of your gardening experience. I love to have a nice garden but definitely do not like to do the gardening myself as I hate having dirty hands!!!

  14. I love learning new things too. :) I always watched my dad and some of my other relatives plant gardens when I was growing up. Last year, I planted my own vegetable garden in my backyard. It was fun to watch things grow over time and then be able to use what I had grown in my kitchen. It was quite a lot of work though, but worth it. Maybe I'll do it again this year. Can't wait to see your daffodils. :)

  16. So cute! I love the idea of making things grow but I've only ever managed to grow mold.

PS. Thank you so much for the motorcycle offer! Haha. One of the reasons why I'm tentative is because I'm of relatively short stature and not very strong. I've had bicycles tip over on my and I'm afraid the same will happen on a motorcycle.

  17. I am loving that picture
I always want to try planting my own herbs, but get discourage since I dont have a backyard, might consider indoors, but it's not as fun :)
Looks like is going great with you!

  18. I really enjoy planting herbs and perennials in our small space. I've learned over the years to ask many questions of the specialists at the gardening centers, as well as my gardening friends - and not to take it like a mini-death when a plant doesn't make it ;P

  19. I love being surrounded by flowers but I suck at gardening! I have a unique ability to make green things die before their time! I don't have a garden, but I have pots of plants on our balcony. I'm struggling to make them bloom and having 3 cats that love digging isn't helping!! We're also planting vegetables in my mom's yard this year! Wish me luck :)
