Continuing the theme of my last post, I'm shifting into elegance. In both dress and attitude.
Here's an outfit I adore -- fancy, feminine and fun. The Evan-Picone dress wasn't expensive -- I found it on sale for $24. I realized that, with summer's fashion-lull, I hadn't bought any new clothes in months so I felt no guilt snatching it off the rack.
In my last post, I did a better-than-usual job with my makeup but the pictures were taken from so far away nobody could see it. I'm remedying that here with a closeup to show you my efforts. While my skill at applying makeup is still rudimentary, I do my best. That attitude and a pair of Spanx are my tools.
Question: What occasion would this outfit be appropriate for? A date night? Cocktail party?
You look great in this! I am partial to longer length dresses and skirts, and I love this lenget on you. Where could you wear it? I would say date night or cocktail party. But if you put a jacket over it -- I think you could wear it to work (depending on the environment). The make up is great too ... I need to learn how to put some on.ReplyDelete
What a great dress. I love the styling - the jewelry is great. I'd probably opt for date night, but I've never actually been to a cocktail party. So definitely date night.ReplyDelete
Yeah this is definitely a 'going out dress'. Great fir a date night, or a girls night out. Love the color of it though.ReplyDelete
Oh, this is wonderful, and great job on the makeup! Definitely an evening outfit, good for a date, party, the theater, or just drinks. Real cute!ReplyDelete
Also an evening wedding....ReplyDelete
You look Gorgeous! This is a Great date night dress. Just Beautiful!ReplyDelete
Agreed - date night dress. It's a great color. Oh, and I don't know how you can stand to wear pointed heels! My toes get squished because I have huge feet. Super painful. If you're experiencing the same thing, definitely look into wedges. They're actually quite comfortable!ReplyDelete

Good choice of empire line as you are apple shaped. You'll find that this is due to lack of waist so keep within clothes recommended for apple shapes. Lovely colour too.ReplyDelete
The eye make up is too heavy, it is well applied and perfectly done lips and great lip colour. I think the look suits you but look at pics of Kate Middleton and copy her heavy kohl eyes look, it will work really well and give you the look you want.
This is such a lovely dress! DEFINITELY glamourous! Reminds me that glamour is an attitude.....now go to You Tube and listen to and watch Sheila E sing GLAMOUROUS LIFE! It will definitely set the mood! Hugs! ~SereneReplyDelete
This is the best dress I've ever seen you in, such a beautiful and flattering shape and the colour is equisite.ReplyDelete
A lovely dress for a romantic dinner or drinks. x
Cocktail for sure- beautiful color on you, Ally. If you wore it sans dark tights, a natural leg, I'd say it would work great for a ladies who lunch look as well. As for date night- for sure! Meet you on the mezzanine! xo. Bella QReplyDelete
Oh yes cocktail chic for sure- in fact I would love to borrow this dress for a cocktail event I'm attending tonight! :) You are amazing at your makeup- my application consists of mascara, lip colour and I call it a day- yours looks so elegant and refined with the beautiful blue of the dress. Have a fabulous weekend!ReplyDelete
I would wear this outfit to a fancy wedding. Or to the opera. It's really snazzy. You look so cute in this dress, Ally. Love it.ReplyDelete
Thanks for the peanut butter and jelly comment today. It made me grin from ear to ear. Mwah!
Yes for cocktail and yes date night !ReplyDelete
I honestly like ALL the styling here, the dress, the tights, the accessories and I thought it was quite clever to add that white bag.
I like this pretty color on you - the dress was a good buy.
I have something VERY similar in black, but the bow is turquoise.
In regards to the make up, you are getting better.
In my humble opinion, one thing I would do is to use brown instead of black to outline your eyes.
I actually really love the eye makeup. It's intense, and I am a super fan of intense eyes. It makes them pop and stand out more. It is like you are looking through my soul -- but not in a creepy way.ReplyDelete
That's one glamourous dress!!! Love the color! :)ReplyDelete
Thank You for all your kind comments. I always look forward to them!

Wow, such a great dress! Both the color and the cut look great on you. I also like your makeup, except for the eyeliner which I think is a bit too much, but that's just my personal preference.ReplyDelete
I'm worried about that hurricane thing over there, I hope you're safe!
I could definitely see this at a cocktail party. You look super gorgeous, Ally!ReplyDelete
I would thin cocktail party. I think for a date night I would lose the stockings. :) But I agree with the other commenters. the fabric is real pretty and you look really lovely. I love how you are becoming bolder with your application of make up everyday. :)ReplyDelete
Nice outfit, love the dress.ReplyDelete
I love this elegant look on you; in fact, it's my favorite. I think it's -- for what it's worth! -- age appropriate and sophisticated.ReplyDelete
If I may also make a suggestion: try using a brown or gray eyeliner instead of black. It looks less harsh while still defining your features. As a blonde, it's my recent favorite, and I'm certain it will look good on you! :) You can pick it up in any pharmacy.
This would most definitely be appropriate for a date night or cocktail party. Can I make a suggestion on your eye makeup? Only use eye liner on the top of your lid. If you want to add some to the bottom, make it very thin and light and only half way from the outer - not all the way around. This will make your eyes appear larger. Also, extend your eyebrows out farther. I like to use a brow powder and small angled brush, which basically shapes my brows for me.ReplyDelete
This would make a perfect party dress for an upcoming party ~just saying~ Dark, great for the night time, looks stunning on you, and keeps you cool and refreshed during the autumn night...ReplyDelete
(i see possibility of deep woods off in the future! i know i am going to need it)
