In My Underwear

You're probably not aware how limited men's underwear is.  There are shirts (v-neck or round-collar) and shorts (briefs or boxers).  That's it.  Nothing else.

Women have a delightful array of undergarments.  There are slips, camisoles, girdles, lingerie, bras and panties of every variety.  Visiting a new thrift-store last month, I found a wonderful petticoat for $6.  I'm not sure what I'll wear over it but I want to show it to you.  So, risking modesty, here it is...

I find the garment attractive by itself.  It creates a nice silhouette and feels sensual on my legs.

Have you ever worn anything like this?

  1. Oooh, what fun! So flowy and feminine. You're right, the variety of female undergarments is very appealing - tons of styles as well as great colors and prints. I've always wanted to try a garter belt - they look so flirty.

    1. I have! They look terrific but there's a learning-curve in how to wear them. Attaching stockings is hard until you get the knack of it and they pull and move on your body in unexpected ways. They're better for still-photos or bedroom-duty than regular living.

  2. I've never seen a petticoat with a skirt like that, but I suppose they exist...apart from yours I mean! I wore men's gear for a while...bor-ing!
I missed drape and colour and textures. JJ

    1. That's the problem with men's underwear -- the boredom. 99% are white. When I was a teenage boy, I found and wore colored underpants but they were still the exact same design and material as the white ones.

  3. I always say that… I find men's clothing so very extreeeeemleeely borinnngg (insert yawn here) that I totally hate it when I have to go and shop for it.
    Its like a boring uniform.

  4. Women do have so many more choices when it comes to lingerie, however in the past few years men's choices have dramatically increased. There is now the "biker short" the bikini short, a shorter version of the biker short and of course the old standards of boxers or briefs. Also the fabrics have advanced. Now you can find silky microfiber biker shorts, shorts with built in shelves, hidden pockets, all kinds of stuff. Silk boxers, wild patterns, loads of different colours. You need to check around a bit more. Here are online stores I found quickly... one even has lingerie for men in lace!

  5. Excellent point. It makes one wonder if that's an untapped market? Sure, there are silk robes, smoking jackets, and if you want to get really old school, sock garters, but those a mere drop in the pond compared to what women have to avail of when it comes to their delicates.

That long slip is very pretty! You could wear it (in a nod to the 90s) as a dress out and about. I'd partner it with a cropped jean jacket and cowboy boots, perhaps with some silver + turquoise jewelry for a fun, girly southwestern summertime look.

  6. I have to chime in on this one. Your choices are limited. As far as men's underware, yes there are boxer, briefs, then there is the boxer/brief combos, not to mention the many line of "Cockedos" yep decorative tuxedos and costumes to dress up your members.
Women have underware to make them look "sexy" it is an exaggeration of the womens features, when it comes to men, society really isn't interested in exaggerating mens features in sexy lace or silk.

Although I must admit, I love the flair of sexy tight boxerbriefs on a gentleman.

But alas, women do have I better, thongs, G-strings, bakini, bikers, ..

but best of all..COMMANDO...why wear anything. Wear a dress open and freeing.
Just ask any Highlander what they be wearing beneath their kilt....

  7. I think it's beautiful! I know when I was younger, my favorite thing was putting on things like this (sometimes in addition to costumes, sometimes not) just to feel feminine because I didn't 'develop' until well into my twenties. But i would put on music, fancier undergarments, and dance around.

Now? Now I buy boy's boxer briefs to wear. Because they're more comfortable than girls underwear. They're cotton, and for the same price as buying two pairs of "women's boxer briefs" I can get 8. Also the boys version comes without seams across the bum, go figure!

  8. I loooove petticoats! The way they peek out from under a skirt, the fullness they give the garment. I've got several, including one from the Victorian era (and I wear it!).

  9. When I was younger and slimmer and wore lots of dresses and skirts I had an array of petticoats ... Now I think I have 2 in my drawer. The selection out there is also very limited now as many dresses and skirts now come lined so the need for petticoats is less.

You look super cute in your underwear dear Ally.

  10. Oh you sure as hell bet I have! Like most of the readers-- when I was younger I would wear petticoats under my Sunday church dresses. I once got in trouble when I was three for putting mine on randomly one day, and then proceeding to roll around on the living room floor in front of my parents pretending I was Madonna. True story.

    Happy weekend, my friend!

  11. There are some slinky silk pyjamas in womenswear now, they cost a bit more but they are so worth it. I prefer those over nighties. However I do have a black lace underskirt to go under too short skirt hems. I prefer black to white. I'm not the biggest fan of the one you've picked up to be honest

  12. I haven't seen or worn a one piece petticoat like that since I was a little girl! I had one on under my dress every Sunday!

  13. That's a lovely petticoat! I would wear it under a full long skirt, to give it extra swoosh. Your camisole is also lovely. I adore vintage undergarments - they are so soft and pretty and feminine.
