NYC Helicopter Ride

I've never ridden in a helicopter and always wondered what it's like.  I hear it's not like flying in an airplane.  That intrigues me.  Going up in a helicopter is No. 48 on my bucket list.

I asked and learned my wife Robin has also never ridden a helicopter, so today -- our eleventh anniversary -- I'm surprising Robin with a helicopter sightseeing tour of New York City.  I booked the flight at Liberty Helicopter which is reported to give the best flying tour of the city.

I'll let you know later how it goes.  I plan to take pictures and, afterward, I'm treating Robin to Cajun food at the only New Orleans restaurant in NYC, The Delta Grill.  I like the place.  Nawlins food, beer and Mardi Gras decoration.

Have you ever gone up in a helicopter?

  2. Awww what a cute card, and congratulations to you both.
My first time in NYC was when i was 16, i went with my grandparents and remember wanting to take the helicopter tour but it was way out of our budget so we took the boat ride.
I have been on a helicopter once, it was in Switzerland, they took us between the alps, it was glorious, i thought i was in heaven. I am sure you will both enjoy that ride.

  3. Really cute card. I think I'll share it with my husband.
We tried a helicopter ride in Hawaii a few years back. I really enjoyed the view and feeling more exposed than in an airplane. But my 12 year old son hated every minute of the ride. He was tight up against the huge windowed doors and felt very unsafe. They have to seat you very strategically inside for balance so there was no way for me to sit next to him. I figured they'd put him in between us. Poor guy. Now every time we see a helicopter we tease him a bit and say, "there's your favorite thing to do."
Have fun! Can't wait to hear your reaction.

  4. How did I not know you were married? I have been reading your blog forever! aha. I'm so spacy!

The helicopter ride and evening sound fabulous! I want to do that as well - I bet it feels less stable and more exciting in a helicopter, thats what I imagine!

I have never been in a plane or helicopter, but I have gone para-sailing (sort of the same, right?). I've never traveled anywhere I couldn't get by bus, because my family never traveled very far.

  16. Happy, happy anniversary! I showed your card to my husband we both got a kick out of it :-)

I've been on several helicopter rides, but the most memorable one was over an active volcanic vent in Hawaii. Looking down through swirling clouds into the orange crack was amazing. "Holy crap! I can see the inside of the earth!!!"

  18. What a sweet thing to do for your anniversary! Interestingly, my husband Mark is a helicopter pilot and more than once offered to take me up, but I'm terrified of... well not heights or helicopters exactly, but of Mark having the controls of a helicopter that's in the air. I've driven with him, and that's terrifying enough!
