Birthday Week

I had a nice weekend in Hudson, NY. How 'bout you? What'd you do this weekend?

After a week of steady rain, there was a full day of sunshine Saturday which was perfect for walking up and down Warren Street. That long main street is a shopper's paradise. Clothing boutiques, antique stores, fun cafes and tony restaurants. I savored the day there.

Many of the chic stores in Hudson describe their vintage wares as "mid-century," meaning dating back to the 1950s-60s. Henceforth instead of calling myself old I'll refer to myself as "mid-century." Technically that's correct since I was born in 1957.

The last time I had my hair cut was before the virus arrived. As it grows longer, I believe it looks better and better. I plan to let it continue to grow until some reason arises to change that decision. What's your hair-situation now?

  1. Happy birthday! Glad you got to do some celebrating. My hair is colorful - the one thing the pandemic was good for is that I'm working from home, so since I don't have to go into the office I dyed it some fun colors. It's fading a bit but I'm definitely going to dye it again! By the way, I think the mid-century description for you is perfect!

    1. Yay for the colors! I want to try that, too, someday.

  2. Birthday week! So exciting.

Similar to yours, my hair hasn't been touched since January. It's fine, just drab. I've been considering trying to attempt my own highlights, but the last time I did that it ended in disaster...

    1. Self-styling usually turns into disaster so maybe that's not the best decision. Good luck!

  3. I love the long hair on you, Ally! It looks so soft, and you have wonderful waves. Heh, yes, you're mid-century modern!

    1. Thanks! My hair is naturally wavy and I've learned how to care for it so that it's soft and well-kept. I used to shampoo too often which stripped it of natural oil.

  4. Happy birthday! Let those locks flow! It's what I've been doing. I did a home trim to get rid of frizzy bits and I've messed with the color, but I doubt I'll be getting a salon cut for awhile.

Hey "mid-century" is very in and highly valued!

We skated and costumed and I made breakfast for dinner: bacon and eggs and spiced stewed peaches over waffles.

  5. What a great idea, I'll be calling myself mid-century too from now on! Looks like you had a great day. We had some long-awaited sunshine too on Saturday and went for a walk. I agree with Sheila that the long and wavy hair looks great on you. I've just had my hair cut last Wednesday. It's a good thing I did, as hairdressers have been closed down again now! xxx

    1. Lucky timing on the hair-cut. I want to wait a long time before my next one.

  6. Your megawatt smile in the last photo could make the sun blush, Ally. May that same sort of joy and contentment continue on for you all through the coming year of your life.
