My Holiday Outfit

I want a holiday outfit. Being a DIY stylist, I created an ensemble myself with personally selected pieces.

I discovered a cute skirt on sale for under $10; it was originally $80 and marked down three times. Then a glamorous top leaped out at me, also on sale. Normally you'd say the top is too... well... over the top. It's flashy but then this is a holiday outfit so normal rules don't apply. Besides, I always wanted to dress this glamorous so the experience is worth breaking a fashion rule.

What do you think? What are you wearing to holiday parties this year?

  1. I love this shape of skirt on you, Ally! The red shoes really pop too.

The top is very glam, and I almost feel like it belongs with a different skirt, something really massive, like a ballroom skirt. The bottom you're wearing is great, but it feels more casual.

I have been having fun putting together sparkly going-out outfits for this week! Tomorrow night will be purple sparkle!

    1. You're right, of course. I wasn't aware of this until I saw the pictures. In person, the skirt seems more elegant: it shines and is made of nice material. Thanks for the expert feedback.

  2. I Like the outfit but I agree with Sheila that the top is a bet more dressy than the skirt but overall it looks like a fun outfit to wear and it would go well for a festive holiday occasion.

    1. Thanks, Pat. I agree but didn't realize it until too late.

  3. What a fun outfit, Ally. I'm loving the pops of yellow and red. That skirt looks like a real wardrobe staple, to be worn throughout the year. xxx

    1. I hope so! I love the skirt more than most I've ever worn.

  4. I am loving the sleeves on that blouse- and I totally subscribe to the styling theory that one should go a little extraaaaa in terms of outfits for the holidays! :)

  5. I love that you're having fun putting together outfits. That's the best way to experiment.

That skirt was a great buy for you!

I think the top might be a bit dressy (more evening wear) for the skirt, just a thought. It would be fab with a floor length A-line maxi skirt in some kind of shimmer...gold maybe?

I could see that plaid skirt with a solid coloured short sleeve button up shirt, maybe even tied at the waist. A bit like Baby from Dirty Dancing.

I think I'll be throwing on one of my lurex vintage gowns for New Year's this year.

    1. I love both of these pieces and bow to the consensus that they don't go together. So... I plan to take your suggestion and find new ways to wear each of them.

  6. The skirt suits you so well! I have to admit that I didn't even think abut what to wear for the holidays ... living ina motor home makes everything somehow a little less fancy and I didn't even bring any nice dress or anything like that :(

    1. Thrift stores are your friend! They are everywhere and you can find a fun dress for the price of lunch. Plus their clothes get second life with you instead of going into the trash so they're environmentally positive.

  7. I like that skirt! Nice shape and patterny colours!!! Cute. I don't think I could cope with that top- it says to me, "You will sweat in this Kezzie!"- I've got a paranoia about chiffon sleeves- you rock it well but perhaps I would like to see you wear it with a red skirt!!!!

    1. I'll wear both the top (which isn't warm) and skirt in future outfits in different ways. Thanks for the suggestions.

  8. I love me some plaid, that skirt is so fun! We have a holiday party with Nate's work later this week and I usually get a little dressed up for that, don't know what I'm wearing yet but I'll figure out something fun!

  9. I love a big statement sleeve. On other people (I actually hate wearing sleeves which is why I got tattooed down my arms), but I love a great sleeve.

    Also a lovely A-line skirt!

I don't usually dress up for the holidays. My coworker gifted me with a cheesy extra long elf hat, but I've been too sick to get even normal dressed. I'm hoping after a little time on some antibiotics I'll feel better enough for a New Years look.

  10. Adore it, so perfect for holiday parties! Especially the shoes! No holiday parties for me this year but I tend to keep the outfit fairly simple and go crazy with makeup - lots of glitter!
