At The Crossroads

As I sail into a third chapter of my life, I wonder what will become of me. Might I enjoy a parvenu's life of carefree bliss, or will I degenerate into Sebastian Melmoth, filled with sorrow and regret. Or are there other possibilities, like experiencing events anew through a different gender lens? (I'm voting for that last one.)

“When you're young, you think everything you do is disposable. You move from now to now, crumpling time up in your hands, tossing it away. You're your own speeding car. You think you can get rid of things, and people too -- leave them behind. You don't yet know about the habit they have, of coming back....You can never get away from where you've been.”

― Margaret Atwood, The Blind Assassin

Can you foresee your future?

  1. Ah... difficult choices for you to make. Yesterday I was in a tights shop and somebody was squatted, looking for the right tights. She had on a lovely burned orange skirt, orange with black patterned tights and matching pumps. I said to the shop owner: "You better help this lady first"... and the lady got up and it was a man. Well, her face was a man's. Obviously a man in transition. I didn't even lift and eyebrow as I am pretty used to this in our office. I think you would like to work at ABN AMRO bank. They are all for diversity.

  4. As a champion worrywort, I have learned to live in the moment and not look too far ahead into the future. But I do get that at certain moments in our lives, that is exactly what we need to do. That photo of you is gorgeous, by the way! xxx

  5. Such a wonderful photo of you, Ally! I cannot see the future, so I choose to live in the now, and focus on where I am. There are so few things in our lives that we REALLY control - much of it is an illusion.

I was so heartened at the last vintage fair to see a lot of people in women's vintage clothing, particularly young people. Gender fluidity abounds!

  6. The future is still ours if somewhat abbreviated...if we are strong and brave enough to reach out and grasp it. If not now, when?

Your enthusiasm and joy was contagious when you were here and is evident in your glow in the above photo.

As we grow older novelty becomes more challenging to achieve. You have the opportunity to experience life with new eyes. It's an incredible gift.
