A few months ago, I started searching for modest skirt-suits. The daily outfits middle-aged women wear to the office. Humble, unassuming coordinated skirts and jackets. There's a subtle charm to these clothes. They lack the flash of tight dresses and decorated leggings but have an appeal. To me, anyway. Clothes like the skirt-suit displayed below. They allows me to dream about a real female life. A life I wish was mine.
Keeping in line with the modest approach, I chose simple jewelry and plain makeup. Did you know it takes as long to apply subtle makeup as it does to put on flashy stuff?
What do you think? How does this look come off? Should I change my name to Maureen?
This is a gorgeous suit on you! I could totally see you wearing this in a work environment.
ReplyDeleteHa ha, yes, "subtle" make-up takes just as long as dramatic makeup! Well done!
You are giving me full on receptionist. Well done!!!
ReplyDeleteThat's my goal. Thanks!
DeleteYou look really pretty in this delicate shade of dusky pink- I even see a shyer, more demure expression in your face as you wear it!! x
ReplyDeleteThanks. That's true -- I felt more demure wearing this.
DeleteYou look like a very friendly approachable secretary/office admin lady. Someone subtle and very efficient and sharp minded yet gentle and very caring. The color is beautiful and the fit is perfect!
ReplyDeleteThat's me!
DeleteHa! Yeah the irony of it all when "natural" takes as long as fake.
ReplyDeleteI really kind of like this colour on you with the hair and your eyes. It is very flattering. Not many people can pull this colour off but you do...ahem...Maureen. ; )
bisous
Suzanne
Thanks, hon. Can I get you a cup of coffee?
DeletePretty in pink! I really like the subtle tonal embroidery at the neck and the unique buttons.
ReplyDeleteLast week I was wearing a loose-fitting top and loose-fitting pants, and I realized that I will probably be wearing the same thing when I'm 60. No figure flattery, but pure comfort.
Makes perfect sense.
DeleteOh yes! Pulled it off to a T! Xo Jazzy Jack
ReplyDeleteYou really nailed this look from the soft shade of the suit dress to the nude pumps...it works. I think you look great.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lisa. Your opinion counts the most to me.
DeleteClassic outfit there Ally, and you wear it well!
ReplyDeleteYou look really great in that outfit. The colour suits your complexion beautifully!

I think this look suits you very well!
ReplyDeleteThank you a lot for your thoughts on my last post! I agree with what you said - all women somehow want to express their beauty and when they have to cover their bodies they focus on their face, or hairstyle, or even their nail polish, whatever they can :)

This outfit is immensely becoming and deeply elegant, Ally. It looks fantastic on you and channels a subtle air of 50s/60s style in the process.
ReplyDelete♥ Jessica
Yes it does, Jessica. And that makes me love it even more.
DeleteIt's a pretty suit, but I think 'Maureen' comes off a bit too mature, and I don't mean age. What about throwing in a few more youtful elements, the top with a denim skirt, or the skirt with a blouse, to mix it up a bit. After all, we middle aged ladies are very proud of our youthful looks...
ReplyDeleteOh Maureen, hehe. But, seriously, this is a nice colour and lovely set of baubles with this outfit too!
ReplyDeleteOctober Moments
I'd pair it with an ivory cardigan.
ReplyDeleteYou're gonna laugh.. I love old lady clothes and have e VERY similar dress: https://c4.staticflickr.com/4/3739/18858098922_18aa949e4e_b.jpg
ReplyDeleteThis is definitely a Maureen type of outfit. It definitely gives off a bit of a European vibe of the Queen a bit to me as well. You look absolutely amazing.

You look lovely! By the way, being feminine means different things to different women. I've always worn makeup, loved wearing clothes, had a passion for shoes. . .the whole nine yards. None, repeat, none of my friends in high school cared for any of these things and they still don't. They're all dear wonderful women, all of them married, had children, and, now, celebrate their grandchildren. Being feminine is just as much an attitude as it is an assigned gender.
ReplyDeleteI know. That's why I'm attempting to achieve it despite my assigned gender which prohibits it. Thank you for your valuable insight.
DeleteI never thought about different age groups of fashion much before. What I love about this style is that it's so much more put together than a lot of outfits that the youth wear these days. Also, I love the vintage nature and the coordination. Happy you shared this with us!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Imogen. Yes, most of us rarely think about fashion outside our own age-group; it's invisible to us. I'm stretching to explore all ages of female fashion. (Although perhaps not the Hello Kitty diapers...)
DeleteI love this! You look the exact image of everyone's favorite elementary school secretary! I do like pink on you, bright pink, pale pink, you ARE pink!
ReplyDeleteI'm waiting for you to come in and take some dictation!
ReplyDeleteRight away, Ma'am! Let me fetch your coffee.
DeleteI agree that "natural" make up is time consuming and touch to achieve. This color suits you well.

Hope to see your Thursday for TBT Fashion link up.
What a pretty and ladylike suit. You look businesslike but approachable. You look caring but capable. I think I would consult you on how to best care for my aging parents who can no longer manage in their own home. Natural makeup is often more about lighter colours or closer to 'real' colours than anything. You still have to apply the stuff using the same techniques. It's just like how you can paint on red nails or nude pink ones and get a different effect but still have to put in the same effort.
ReplyDeleteYou look lovely though and any effort was worth it. xoxoxo
Love this on you Ally the colour is such a gentle colour and the beauty of you shines through in this outfit ! , tell me about how long it takes to do natural make up !!! I am trying to achieve a more chic french look ,but it seems to me to take twice as long ( laugh ) best wishes .

It is a nice suit and becomes you. I find this nicer than the tight, young stuff, but hey, don't listen to me. Everybody's opinion is their own, not yours.
ReplyDeleteBut I like the citron skirt suit you posted after this one more.
And yes subtle make-up takes as long or longer haha.
