Back To The Seventies!

I grew up in the 1970's. I was twelve when they started and 23 when they were over. Those are critical years. I focused on fashion, culture, music and life.

I loved what the girls were wearing then and was sad I couldn't join them. My memories of those clothes are suffused with poignancy and longing. So when I heard recently that the Seventies are coming back into fashion, I thought here's my chance! Here's my opportunity to do now what I couldn't the first time around.

I was shopping at a store called Joyce Leslie last week and spotted a white bodysuit. I wrote about bodysuits recently and was eager to try one myself. This beauty is white and lacey with, best of all, flared sleeves! Nothing says Seventies like flare.

What do you think? Would you wear flared sleeves?

  3. I can't remember ever wearing flared sleeves in my life!
I think it's fantastic you now get to wear the clothes you always wanted! You are an inspiration to those out there that don't dare to/can't to that yet.

    Have a great weekend,

  5. The first thing I think about when I see flared sleeves like that is how I would find them annoying when I wash my hands or try to do something. How boring right? That is why I'm not keen on lots of bracelets or rings.

Fashion-wise though it is so much fun!

This really reminds me of some of the costumes that Megan wore last season on MadMen. I think she had a dress like this in white or light blue and it was stunning.

Do you find the bodysuit comfortable? I always felt like they were pulling in all the wrong places.

    1. Yes! I love Megan's hip clothes. I'd be her, if I could.

Honestly, the bodysuit is painful, both because it is way too small for me and, um..., I have extra equipment down there that it tugs on.

    2. LOL! Even on women they aren't comfy. It's a wedgie in the worst possible spot.

  6. I'm with Suzanne - I LOVE bell sleeves but I always pass them by because I'm like, how would I even function while wearing that? You look super pretty, though, and I love that necklace.

    1. I concede your point, but there are occasions when we dress up solely for appearance with practicality ignored.

  7. MY memory of those clothes are suffused with, "What was I thinking?" My sensibilities went directly from the '60s to the '80s. I am enjoying the bodysuit, though.

    1. I missed the Sixties and thought Eighties fashion was dumb.

    1. Back in the Seventies, we called those "bell-bottoms." Every pair of pants I owned had them. I loved them for years.

  12. I wore a bell sleeve blouse a few days ago and could not point out what decade it was from, its clear that it was the 70's now.
I like the look, specially the necklace .

  15. I loved flared sleeves the last time they were around (late 90s). I have done them since, but they do tend to drag in things!

You look lovely in your white lace!

  17. This is so cute. I have a peasant top with bell-shaped sleeves that belonged to my mom in the 60s or 70s. It's been well-loved and has a few battle scars, like a small scorch mark on the sleeve from a cooking mishap. It doesn't get a WHOLE lot of wear because it's so unusual, but I love putting it on and thinking about what she was like when she was my age.
