Birthday Bikes

Singer Billy Joel collects motorcycles; he has dozens of 'em.  Unlike most rich guys who squirrel their fancy bike collection in garages out of view, Billy displays his bikes in public.  He rents a storefront in tony Oyster Bay where his motorcycles are on display for everyone to enjoy.  The only thing the store sells is t-shirts.  It's like a private museum.

I visited Billy's place on my birthday to admire the motorcycles.  I took pictures, shown below.  Even if you don't know anything about motorcycles, you can still appreciate the colors, shapes and beauty of these handsome machines.

  6. gorgeous. I especially love Triumphs. I use to own a 2006 Bonneville (orange and white named Julius) but I sold it to buy screen print equipment. Now I have a 1973 Honda CB350f which has been made into a cafe racer. I love it! It's got the copper penny red color of the new Miata's and I had gold accents painted on it as well.
What kind of bike do you ride?

    1. I have two motorcycles -- a big touring bike that I ride every day (BMW K1200LT) and a small, speedy sportbike that I use for thrills (Yamaha FZ-1).

  7. want. that. PEGASUS SIGN! A band that I liked based their fake oil company logo on that pegasus. Mobil, right? Anyway, now I'm obsessed with that logo.

I love your pictures of the bikes. Bikes are so pretty and look like so much fun.

  9. Happy Belated Birthday! I love motorcycles, although they scare the crap out of me. My brother and sister-in-law ride Harleys and they are beautiful pieces of machinery. Heather

  12. I knew Billy Joel loved bikes and that made him pretty cool in my eyes to start with, the fact that he has them on display for anyone to look at is something I didnt know. And now Billy Joel is just awesomeness, even if he hadn't sung Piano Man!!

What a fantastic way to spend your birthday Ally and thanks for sharing some of the beauty :)

    1. Thanks, Kathy. When his place opened up a year ago, it became an instant pilgrimmage for every m/c club around here. And the fact that Billy shows up every so often to talk bikes with visitors increased attendance.
