We're heading toward my favorite holiday, Halloween. Do you enjoy wearing costumes?
Every year I try to convince Robin to join me at a Halloween party. She used to hate the holiday so, to coax her into the spirit of it, I create two complementary costumes. She enjoys being part of a couple.
Two years ago, we were Ralph & Alice Kramden from "The Honeymooners." Last year, we were a pastry chef and cupcake. Here are the pictures.
What have you been in the past?
That was two years ago already? Whoa! I was Princess Lolly last year...otherwise, I haven't dressed up in a while. Excited to see what you're doing this year!
ReplyDeleteCute! You look so great in your Honeymooners costume!
ReplyDeleteI love dressing up for Halloween, but I'm not usually all that creative. In recent years I've been Morticia (an outfit which I've probably overdone), a swashbuckling pirate, and a brutal accident victim (I love doing makeup FX).
What are you planning on being this year?
Still mulling it over. Coming up with a costume that passes muster with Robin is the hardest part. Her rules: "No cleavage, no heels."
DeleteI loveee the idea of dressing up to scare kids. Am i bad?
ReplyDeleteand i lived your costume from last year.
Maybe you can be nun and priest ?
Oh... and head over to my post. It was so much fun sitting next to you at Sheilas party;)
You two look great as The Honeymooners! Can't wait to see what you come up with this year.
ReplyDeleteAll are such cute costumes. I haven't gotten to costume in several years due to October being a "poor" month in the cycle of college days and having a lack of anything to do. I am not a horror movie or haunted attraction person and anything less-frightening is intended for children.
ReplyDeleteI did a witch costume one year on the blog, but I don't have a costume for this year sadly.
Can't wait to see what you guys cook up for this year though. You're very creative!
I agree with Robin. Heels are such a pain at parties, especially when there are bunch of people + you are standing. If its cold, you want the girls covered up, hahah! I love you two as Ralph + Alice - that was such a cool idea. A friend of mine dressed up as Juno MacGuff + Paulie Bleeker, from the flick, Juno. The woman at the grocery store really thought I was pregnant. Oh, and one year, I dressed up as a knocked-up housewife. Rollers in my hair, plus a black eye to boot. It was awesome! :) This year Erich + I aren't doing a couples costume, but I think mine will be fun. Not as creative as I have been in the past, but it'll still be cool.
ReplyDeleteOkay, The Honeymooners photos is beyond adorable; you guys look fantastic.
ReplyDeleteI am going to my first Halloween party in years this year. In my youth I always took advantage of the night to fall into the sexy costume cliche. Uh-oh. My youth has flown the coop. Maybe I will fall back on my mouse ears, which never failed me in recent years trick-or-treating with the youngest.
Aww, such fun costumes from years past! I love your Honeymooners theme, too much fun!
ReplyDeleteWe've done a lot of fun costumes too, my favorites being garden gnomes and Mario and Luigi from Super Mario Brothers. No parties so far this year so no dressing up as of right now, but that could always change I suppose! I do like Halloween!
Love, love these costumes. You are one of those creative people of course. We always get stuck on store bought costumes which never look that great.
ReplyDeletePlus we never agree on the costumes and I have rarely been able to do a couple's theme. :(
D.
Oh, a chef and a cupcake - that is so cute! I was a classic witch last year - green skin, pointy hat etc.
ReplyDeleteLast time I dressed up was moons ago ... Wonder Woman. Love rocking a super hero costume!
ReplyDeleteYou can be Ghostrider! Just figure how to have flames coming out of your skull as you ride your motorcycle.
DeleteAhhh!! You guys are so cute!! I remember both of these posts :) I am trying to convince Kyle into going as the tenth doctor, so I can go as Rose. I can't wait to see what you come up with, you always come up with fun costumes!
ReplyDeleteWhat creative and inspiring costumes- I loved that you have coaxed the Halloween spirit out of Robin and she now appears to be enjoying the holiday just as much if not more than you1 I love couple costumes, still working on this year!
ReplyDeleteI love your costumes! It's so very much fun!
ReplyDeleteI love your Alice look better
how about this year?
So funny, Ralph and Alice! What a great costume idea...did Robin capture the half scowl/half sneer of Jackie Gleason as Ralph?
ReplyDeleteI love wearing costumes. Ballroom studios host Halloween parties every year and I usually end up going to 2 or three of them. Since I will see many of the same people at them, I come up with a number of costumes. Its fun...but I have to be very careful not to choose a costume thats too hot and it has to have plenty of room to move and dance in.
I've been a medieval pirate wench, a spanish senorita, bride of frankenstein, half devil/half angel, belly dancer, can-can dancer, a dark fairy and a green ethereal fairy. Nothing too creative. This year, I'm going to be a mermaid...with full makeup and tail. We will see how it turns out.
Looking forward to seeing your costumes this year!
OMG, you two are soooo cute! I love The Honeymooner's costumes.
ReplyDeleteOooh, I think Lorena's idea is a good one. Although, I think you'd look amazing as Father Ralph and Robin as Meggie. I loved those two. I thought Father Ralph was so HOT. haha
I never dress up for Halloween. We don't go to parties and I'm not that creative. :(
Chris and I did a couples costume once. Are you familiar with the Mickey Mouse cartoon "The Sorcerer's Apprentice"? It was in the movie "Fantasia". Anyhoo, Chris dressed up as Sorcerer Mickey and I dressed up as the broom. It was really cute and we wore the costumes on Halloween at Walt Disney World.
ReplyDeleteHalloween is my 2nd favorite holiday (after my birthday). You and Robin look so cute!
Great costume idea, Sage.
DeleteThese are so cute! I think two of my favorite and last minute ideas for costumes were:
ReplyDelete1. Dirt Devil (I wore all red clothing, Horns on my head, attached my Dirt Devil vacuum parts around my waist and stuck clumps of vacuum lint in my hair).
2. An Organ Grinder (I dressed Bavarian style and hung a small accordion around my neck with a monkey perched on my shoulder).
;D
Such cute costumes!! This year I want to be a cockroach, with a sign that reads "I survived 2012".
ReplyDeleteAmber
Amber's Mouthwash
The Honeymooners is a hoot! Love it!. What will you be this year?
ReplyDeleteI haven't been anything creative in quite a few years, but this year I plan on being a cave woman.
How fun! I do enjoy costumes, always have. I used to design period costumes. For Halloween I think my favourite that I went as was Dark Phoenix, Tomb Raider, it was fun doing that costume. But, last year my bf and I went as David Bowie and Iman. That was less dramatic for me though and more fun for him. haha. I have no clue what I am doing this year if anything.
ReplyDeleteWhile I love your costumes, I have an intense dislike for costumes for me. I don't know why, but I have always disliked it even as a kid. Except maybe for the Lone Ranger or a cowboy. I could get into those costumes! But otherwise I just am not comfortable in one. There is probably some deep, dark, psychological reason behind my fear of costumes.
ReplyDeleteI don't "do" Halloween very often and I'm not sure why. I love costumes and used to create and dress up in them just for fun. I suspect the parties you go to are way more fun than the ones I have an opportunity to attend. I usually hand out candy to the kids who ring my doorbell. Once I wore my wedding gown and was a fairy godmother. I'm looking forward to your 2012 attire!!
ReplyDeleteP.s. I'm married to a wonderful Scorpio. You hit the nail on the head when you described their characteristics; I know all about them!! Thanks for your comment and I apologize if I EVER hurt your feelings. :-)
Okay, that is just plain adorable. And I'm envious you have someone fun to dress up with every Halloween. I haven't found one single person yet who will do that with me. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteThis year I'll be dressing up like Madonna because I'm going to her concert that night. :)
I can't wait to see what you and Robin will dress up as this year!
Oh my god! LOVE these costumes. I'm terrible at costuming. I just don't have that creative juice. It's baffling. I even have trouble coming up with costumes for my aerial performances.
ReplyDeleteMaybe you should come to Cali and design something for me.
xo,
Tracy
You should be Lucy and Ian should be Ricky Ricardo. :)
DeleteI have to say, I think it's more fun coordinating costumes, and I love y'all's! Especially the Honeymooners… too funny!
ReplyDeleteLet's see… our first Halloween together, I wore my Ren Faire "wench" getup, and a cobbled together sort of a "gay Pirate Roberts" costume for Hubby from stuff we had around the house (we were poor).
The second year, I don't think Hubby dressed up, but Stinky was the Grim Reaper with a robe from Salvo and a mask and scythe (probably from Walmart), and I was Death from the Sandman comics. The annoying part for me was that I have an ankh that is a collector's item by DC comics. But we had not sufficiently unpacked for me to find it, so I made a crappy one from cardboard and tim foil. *sigh* I already had the rest of the stuff, except black hair spray, which was easy to get. Most people on the street didn't recognize my character, but I got the occasional "nerd nod" of recognition.
The highlight of the "couples costumes" has to be from 2010. I blogged it. We were the Prom King and Prom Queen. I was NOT the Prom Queen… Hubby looked hilariously awesome! Totally his idea, I just ran with it…
Last year was kind of lame. We both were in PJs and bathrobes. I did have fun with accessories, though. I had thong fuzzy slippers, with sloppily painted toes and the separators still on. I had a sleep mask as a headband, I had a magazine, Hubby had a newspaper. We each brought mugs (mine was Holly Hobbie). We drank Bloody Marys, to keep i n character. But I didn't blog it.
We haven't discussed this year yet…
Cute story. Better hurry -- time's running out for this year!
ReplyDeleteAwesome post, Ally! Oddly, though costume elements seep into my everyday-wear, I'm not a Halloween-costume-wearer myself. Love the photos of previous costumes and everyone's ideas.
