Outdoor Clothes

For the longest time (and sometimes still), I kept happiness away by not buying certain clothes -- i.e., items you wear outdoors.  My thinking was that, since I can't go outdoors dressed in these clothes, they are a waste of money.  But not having them to play with saddens me.  Deeply.  The pieces are so pretty and I like to play make-believe even indoors.

My attitude changed when I saw an outdoor coat at my local thrift-shop for a ridiculously low price ($4).  A latte at Starbucks costs more than that.  So I bought the coat.  Its blinding, furry whiteness amuses me.  Here, I'm accenting it with new purple gloves and a scarf from Old Navy ($10 total).

Let me also show off my cute new booties from Payless ($26).  Amazingly they had my size (12).

Have you ever worn a metallic skirt?  I almost didn't buy this one because I worried it would look weird but, putting it on, it's kinda cute.  It adds energy to the outfit.

The purple top came from Old Navy where I found it in a clearance rack ($5).  I like how it fits and shows off my curves.

Now that the outdoor-clothing dam has been broken, I want to find a colorful pair of rain-boots to jump in puddles with so I can giggle...

    1. I found the skirt on the clearance rack at Marshalls, a discount-store, so it's new but marked-down ($12).

  9. I recently acquired a metallic skirt, and now I'm kind of hooked on them. Excellent thrift score, on the coat, and one of the things I miss most about the US is those size-12 shoes at Payless. Not so easily come by here in the UK, alas.

  10. You look like you belong at some fancy gala at a ski lodge. I like coats and winter accessories, but I don't like snow. Is that weird? I haven't tried metallic skirts, but I used to have metallic silver pants.

  11. Major score! I totally bought a similar fluffy (real fur) coat for $14 at goodwill. It never gets cold enough to wear it where I live, but it still makes me feel ultra glam.

Speaking of glam - omg that skirt is so cool! You're beating me in shiny levels today. You'll have to borrow my gunmetal boots.

  16. Outstanding!!! The colors, textures, composition, EVERYTHING!! Welcome to the joys of outerwear, too!! That's part of the reason I hate summer. Your hosiery and shoes are perfect with this look as well. The purple top looks fabulous on you too. Great outfit.

  19. How fun is that coat! I'm glad you're allowing yourself to spend money on your own pleasure... too few people do that.

I really like the booties, they can be dressed up or down. While I like the color of the shirt, the casual style and fabric aren't dressy enough for that amazing skirt. I"m sure you have something that would go better!

I have fond memories of a skirt I bought when I was studying in Australia. It was silver knit sparkly, with pointed hem in the center front and back. AND it had multicolored bead strings hanging from the hem. I also bought (separately) a pair of dressy-ish sandals in the same mutlicolored beads. I adored the outfit!

The skirt doesn't fit now, but it is lovingly stored in my basement... someday...?

Metallic items can be a bit iffy but I think this skirt style and length suits you perfectly, you could wear it in any fabric. x
