Halloween Preview

I made my costume!  Actually, I made two identical costumes, one for me and one for Robin.  She'll be Max with brown hair; I'll be Caroline with blonde hair.

Creating the costume helped me improve my sewing skills and learn about something useful called fusible tape.  I also made my necklace!  Caroline wears a distinctive necklace in every episode, so I went to Michaels, bought beads and supplies, and re-created the way it looks.

We're going to a party with three girlfriends next Saturday so there'll be plenty of action photos of our group.  Let me entice you with a simple picture of what the costume looks like.  I tried to reproduce the outfit from the TV show as accurately as I could.  What do you think?

What are you dressing up as this year?  Don't forget to send in a photo of yourself and I'll post it on our virtual Halloween Party.

  1. A very convincing look and I am so impressed that you are sewing. Too often, I think i should get out our machine and then, I don't.

This look reminds me of a waitress at Nicol's Diner in the KC area. Several years ago, DH and I stopped for a quick lunch there and were served by a male waitress dressed as a woman. It was uncanny as she rang up our bill and counted out our change. She was built so much like my DH, tall and slender. It was only the sinews in the arm that gave her away.

  5. I'm not familiar with the tv show, but you look great. I love these vivid colors. Your lip color, illuminating smile, and neck bling add to the vibrancy of the look.

I also wanted to let you know I was thinking of you this weekend when I had to choose whether to get on a very small boat on the ocean. i was filled with quite a dose of fear...but I remembered your comment about joy being on the other side...and you were SO right! The boat ride was one of the very best of experiences! Thank you for sharing such encouraging wisdom!

  13. you look fabulous!!! I love it! :-) I love that you did a button front, too. I'm SO SCARED of button fronts and plackets and button holes... all of those button related words. Except cute as a button. Which you are.

  19. Aww this turned out so so great! Totally identifiable even by somebody who doesn't watch the show, I think. I've seen commercials, but that's it. Omg that turned out so great. I need to get my pictures to you!

  20. Wow, Ally, I think you absolutely nailed it. But I'd like a close-up of that amazing necklace, please :)

Alas, I was felled by The Crud, and didn't get to go to the Halloween party last night, which I'd been looking forward to for weeks. I do always wear some kind of ears to work every Halloween, so maybe I'll get good pics of those :P

  21. So cute! Do you have a skinny metallic belt? That would complete the look; Caroline wears one with her uniform constantly.

I LOVE this costume idea. So clever!

  22. Am I missing something? What show? Who are Caroline and Max?

It's a cute costume, anyway... I love that you are getting more into sewing! I understand that it's even possible to take sewing classes. The adult version of the home ec from high school. Did you take it, or were you just shunted off to shop?

  24. Great costume! I don't really watch the show, but this looks pretty accurate based on what I've seen. Also, have you thought about doing a tutorial for the necklace? It's so cute, and I'd love to see how you did it!
