Thank you everyone for your wonderfully compassionate and sage thoughts today on the bathroom question. I was looking for advice and you guys really came through. Your comments help me understand the situation a lot better.
After reading your words, I tweeted how fortunate I am to have supportive friends like you. You make such a big difference in my life. Previously, I felt isolated and had no one to discuss issues like this with. Isolation magnified my sadness -- but now it's gone for good. Simply knowing there are people as kind as you out there gives me strength and hope.
As you may know, my birthday is coming up (Nov. 3rd). It's my tradition to buy myself a present I truly like. I started this practice after realizing nobody will get me what I want because I'm unusual. Treating myself remedies that.
I just ordered something online that I've wanted my whole life. It wasn't expensive and will be dearly appreciated by me. I bought a purple dance-leotard and matching tutu!
For fun, I often visit a dancewear website to browse and dream; this time, I actually bought something. It'll arrive before my birthday and perhaps... maybe I'll take pictures. Then again, just having a pretty dance-outfit is a great gift for me. I'll enjoy it more than almost anything since, to me, it represents the life I want to have.
Do you buy yourself something for your birthday?
Oh, how cute... I definitely want to see this little costume when it arrives! I always buy a birthday present for myself too, it's too much fun not to.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see it!
ReplyDeleteI kno, problems often shrink at least a little after you talk about them :)
ReplyDeleteCute ballerina outfits. I have a trauma about leotards (I had to wear a horrible one in the 80's at school on sport classes) but I love tutus.
Haha, yes, I usually buy things for my birthday.. just something small, tho, like some tasty wine. This year I bought a Monster High- doll (lol :D), but that was coz my father gave me the money ;D

I think this is the best idea ever. I love dance wear- it's warm, good for layering and just damn pretty. I buy myself birthday presents, but I also buy myself presents on a regular basis. In fact, a new pair of docs were purchased and will arrive Thursday as my "back-to-school-and-it-sucks" present.
ReplyDeleteAwww that sounds like a marvelous gift to yourself. Usually most of my gifts are bought for myself. My birthday is too close to Christmas, but far enough away where everyone is broke, burnt out, and going back to college to celebrate my birthday. I usually buy myself shoes (which really isn't different than any other day ;P ) because they're my favorite things and always make me feel special.
ReplyDeleteBirthday presents you pick out yourself are always the best. Especially when it's something others won't/are not willing to buy you. Last year I asked my mom to buy me a set of eye makeup brushes for my birthday, but she wanted to buy me running shoes instead ... so I think I'm going to treat myself to some nice brushes this year!
ReplyDeleteA purple tutu? :D Would love to see it. :)
I prefer to sneak off on my own and find the thing I'm craving at the time. Often I've been secretly disappointed in gifts because they sometimes make the statement that the person doesn't even know me. And that hurts. So, treating ourselves is the best way to avoid that.
ReplyDeleteI appreciate your honesty so much. ;) And it doesn't matter if you show us photos in your tutu or not. It's the treat to yourself that matters.
Yay for tutus! It's so much fun to spin in them and watch them fly. That is an awesome birthday present. Also, birthdays are supposed to last a week at a minimum (more opportunities for giving yourself presents).
ReplyDeleteBuying gifts for yourself is a great idea!My friends dont usually get my wish list..:(
ReplyDeleteAlso I've just read your previous post..well who really cares about men looking at you strangely?!Go for it, apply one or two layers of lipstick and ignore them. Its your life! :)
xo
Thanks for the encouragement, pal.
DeleteI also get my own birthday gift each year. I really have everything I want so I let it be a sudden inspiration. And as with the rest of your fans, I can't wait to see the tutu. I love purple. Good choice!
ReplyDeleteYou'll fab! I hope you'll share your outfit with us!
ReplyDeleteI always buy something just for me for my b-day. Nobody loves me more than I do (sorry, hubs)
What a wonderful gift for yourself!! And yes, I have to admit I buy myself a birthday gift usually too. Not every year, but sometimes! I can't wait to see the tutu when it arrives, and purple is a fabulous color!
ReplyDeleteI think buying a gift for yourself for your birthday is self care, and to be admired. I hope that you will share your present with us. Making a dream come true is the best way to celebrate. Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteFor the past two years, I've been trying to give myself a spa-day for my birthday. And for the past two years, unexpected expenses have popped up in my already too-tight budget that have prevented it. But this summer...with this new job, I can totally make it work. What a treat for the big 2-5 :)
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see your tutu/leotard on the blog!!!
That's really pretty! My bday is end of november, and like you I always buy myself a gift. Unlike you though, this year it will be something more 'boyish': shocks for my 4wd lol (clothes can wait!)
ReplyDeleteYour last sentence made me kind of melancholic. Arn't you living life as you wish? :(
btw I'm now following you on gfc, follow back if you enjoy my blog as much as i enjoy yours!
take care

ReplyDeleteOh, yes! Please do twirl in your purple birthday tutu for us!
ReplyDeleteMy parents always give me money for occasions and so I buy what I want. My husband let's me buy what I want too...or I'll ask him to order me a certain something online to be a gift from him. He buys his own stuff for himself and calls it "a gift from me" too. He's into wet shaving brushes, soaps, etc., etc and collects them, so I just let him go for what strikes his fancy and I get my own fancy too. Too many times in the past he's bought me perfume I don't care for (I'm picky and have my favorites already) or other things I don't really need. It's a wonderful thought, but kind of a waste. And I've done the same for him and he ends up not liking it. So, with time, we've learned that buying our own works best for us.
I hope we DO get to see you in your birthday tutu and leotard. I have been known to treat myself on special occasions, but I like it best on those rare occasions that my partner splurges on me unexpectedly.
ReplyDeleteHaving people to talk to about stuff we didn't before is one of the best parts of blogging, and I am so happy you are feeling the kindness. How awesome to celebrate your birthday by giving yourself a gift you have wanted for so long. I absolutely do the same!
ReplyDeleteLast year i< bought me a present for my birthday, i might do it again next year :)
ReplyDeleteI certainly think you deserve that tutu :)
I'd love to see you in your new leotard and tutu! Dance classes (and the costumes that came with them) were one of the highlights of my childhood. I usually buy a present just for me on my birthday.
ReplyDeleteOh, Ally, I can't wait to see your birthday prez!
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited for you and can't wait to see your gify. I buy myself a gift and have done so for the last few years, I decided I worth spoiling ... Betsy was this years gift.
