Real Friends

I've always valued good friends and now, as I journey toward a more authentic life, I cherish them even more.  People who are willing to support someone as unusual as me deserve standing ovations.  They are real friends.

I spent time today with Debbie, one of my best friends in real-life.  I met Debbie twelve years ago when we both belonged to a motorcycle club.  I liked her immediately and have always wanted to remain her friend.

Reading my blog, Debbie noticed that although my clothing choices are acceptable, my skill at applying makeup is poor.  I lack training at makeup and my unguided experiments are sad failures.  I flail around like a tween without a clue.

Debbie, being a kind and helpful person, offered to assist me.  Today, she instructed me in Makeup 101.  She even gave me a little gift-bag of makeup tools and materials.  How sweet is that?!

Here are a few pics of the two of us.  The best part of the day was not the makeup lesson, it was the time spent with a wonderful friend.  Thank you, Debbie!

  3. You look fantastic! Sometimes I feel like a tween trying to put on makeup too - my mom never wears a lot of makeup, and I didn't have friends who wore a lot of makeup growing up, so I didn't have anyone to teach me. I still haven't really figured out eyeliner :/

  19. Just wow. What a difference that makes. Your make up doesn't look professional like a model, but it just looks like what regular women wear. And that is just perfect. Outstanding, great job Deb. What a real difference that makes.

  20. I second what Ashley said. I don't think you were floundering nearly as bad as YOU think you were. :) But the extra makeup really makes a difference and hurdles you right over the edge into all-out femininity! She really made your eyes stand out. Just lovely!

I can't believe how many of your posts I've missed. Having my sister here really took me away from the computer. But I had such a good time. You would love my sister. She's incredible.

  24. I also don't think you were floundering quite as much as you assumed, but a little instruction sure can make the whole process a lot easier. Debbie is a peach for offering to give you some pointers, and there's nothing more fun than making time for girly things!

  27. Wow, Ralph! I have to echo what so many have already said. You look amazing. I especially love the last photo of you two together. You seem to be shining from the inside out.

Your hair styling also looks more loose and a little more carefree. I think it suits you well!

I'm glad you have people in your life like Debbie.
